Hi,
I only weld occasionally . It is more of a hobby and I'm self taught. It is very difficult for me to start and continue an arc when using fresh rods. I saw someone in youtube wraping once the cord around his arm and holding the rod itself when starting to weld. He uses the rod like a pencil. He does not use the holder. Only when the rod is shorter that he starts to use the holder. I tried it and it was effective. I use all the required PPE when welding. Kindly give your comment on this practice.

Thank you
