Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

I just hope that guys interested in welding particularly SMAW application can follow and benefit to what I am posting here coz not every one have the time or resources too to go to a welding school. Like me who would love to attend a welding school or seminar but really have no more available time for this so I just do self study and learning direct from the book or articles from the net. ITS A SORT OF FRUSTRATION FOR ME that is why what ever I learn or assimilate would gladly share also to others interested. 😉

Bro, thanks for making this thread sticky, I know many will learn from this if they just make it serious.

looking at those kaliskis biya of yours,
what i wanna say is...
" kung kaya mo yan brad, kakayanin ko rin yan "!...:gun:
i hope someday makagawa rin ako ng welding beads na kagaya nyan !!!
:thanks: very much for the very inspiring words and very educational tips you share !!!
you are a very blessed man !!!

Yes bro jon, paghandaan mo na ito, I'm pretty sure pag marami tayong pupunta sa warehouse tapos bulk purchase, sure yan baka malaki discount maibibigay. The purchase price is very fair and its rare to find this yet in the market, it is still better to go to the direct importer, mas mura pa at no middle man pa or added commission, hehehe, LOL, so GO GO GOO na !!!!!!

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Sir rosy,

thanks for sharing your knowledge in stick welding. I'm a newbie here in pinoyhandyman and have already learned a lot just by reading your thread. the same goes to all the others who so generously share what they know to this community. hopefully, I may be able to return the favor someday when I shall have attained some level of skill.

now I am tempted to get my own welding machine! 😉

but then, how about health risks in welding, most especially for the eyes? will the welding goggles suffice to properly protect the eyes? how long should we limit doing welding work without unnecessarily causing damage?

sorry if i sound quite paranoid but just want to know how to properly care for the only pair of eyes that we each have while learning this very interesting skill.

thanks in advance and kudos to you, sir rosy!

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

@ bro wisely,

Bro I'm glad to know that you are learning from this thread and actually that is the main purpose for me, share what I am learning so that others may learn the skill too and yes hopefully someday when you have developed some new skills of your own, may I ask a favor that you also share that skill so that others may learn too, well whether its in metal working, woodworking, electronics, automotives, landscaping or house building or beautification or whatever, share mo lang, that's all.

Anyway going back to safety precautions and health risks in welding, if ever you indulge into this skill, do some readings and research on this matter, there are safety guidelines on what to use during welding like what kind of welding helmets to use, wearing protective respirators, what type of clothings to use etc etc. Its all in the INTERnet, all you have to do is give it some time to educate yourself and assimilate or absorb the information regarding this skill, OK bro ? 😉 :p

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

for arc welding a mask's better. the uv light from the arc can give you quite a sunburn.

i suggest an auto-darkening welding mask. it's a big help

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

@ AV973,

As you have mentioned in your PM of your project specially using the welding machine, here's what I will suggest for you bro, the basic tools you will need. 😉 :samurai:

1.) Welding mask or helmet
2.) soft leather gloves, the long one
3.) No coveralls please, its too hot this days, it will be very uncomfortable for you, a simple long sleeves and denim pants, not shorts.
4.) Safety shoes, possibly steel toe
5.) A pair of pliers and some vise grips
6.) Respirator mask to be worn under the hood for protection against fumes inhalation
7.) Maybe a small fan, directed to the welder to fan out the welding fumes.
8.) Chipping hammer, pang tiktik sa welding slags
9.) A 4" angle grinder for grinding or cutting metals
10.) A hack saw, lagareng pang bakal
11.) Measuring steel tape, good for 3M or 5M
12.) Pencil or scriber

14.) a small fire extinguisher, just in case of accidental fire
15.) face shield or mask/goggles for eye protection when metal grinding

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

@ av973,

Bro I forgot to list another item, A steel brush, you will need this also to clean your plates and welds after removing the slags.

OH don't worry about the welding mask/shield, when you get the DC inverter, may kasama na sya sa box plus also the chipping hammer cum wire brush.

CHEERS BRO and good luck sa mga projects mo !!!!!
