Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Finally got the chance to play around with the Yamato on Sunday evening.

Found some left-over angular bars, maybe 2mm thick. Cut to length with a jigsaw loaded with Bosch blade for metal.

This should keep it square while I weld:

Butas!!

Much better than the first one:

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

All four corners welded

I lost track of time. Stopped at nearly 11PM, half expecting the neighbors to file a complaint against me.

Now that I've experienced the wrong way of doing it, its time to backread rosy's posts.
BTW this will be the elevated platform for our washing machine.

Go, Joey! Konting grinder lang yan maganda na. 🙂

You should see my practice welds. Too embarrasing to post.

BTW, I have a small grinder which I plan to use to cut some angle bars for practicing. Can someone tell me what kind of blade I should get to do this? Something preferably I can get at the local WIlcon?

@balarila (Ding),

Bro read my thread on " Rosy's some Grinding and Cutting consumables " to enlighten you on what brand and type to use. Also check out my thread on " Simple Tips or Tricks for Angle Grinder users " , this will refresh your memory on the dangers of using a cutting disc, at least you will be careful. 😮

Mga bros, this thread is not just for nice and beautiful weld applications, its for everything, decent welds or not so decent weld or literally ugly welds so do post your first weld or so practice applications so that we can give you advice and give more tips to improve your weld beads. Post them regularly so we can see the progress and improvement in your weld applications. 😉

HAHAHAHAHAHA, Hanep si bro joey81, konting practice lang sa warehouse, pag dating sa bahay metal project agad binanatan, LOL,LOL

Bro if you see that you are punching holes already on the metal, try to lower a bit your ampere setting, let's say you set it at 120amp, reduce the setting to 100amp or 90amp. Also avoid applying welds on a straight or weaving pattern agad, try na pa spot spot lang na close to each other until all the gaps are closed, this way you prevent the metal surface from being melted or punching un neccessary holes on the surface, always remember to chip off the slug also after each weld bead application. :p

GO GO GO joey, practice and practice and learn from the mistakes you have done so you won't be applying the same kind of mistakes in applying welds. 🙁

@Joey81

If you want to weld those square tubes well you could try Cigweld Ferrocraft 22 welding rods.The same drag rod I brought at the group buy. These are available at Toolec.

This joint was done with that rod .. a random test run so I have not checked for the sweet spot setting ( A ) but I'm sure it could do better.

Miller Spoolmate 100 Spool Gun
Victor Firepower 350 Oxy Ace Outfit
3M Speedglas 9002X AD Helmet
Makita LC1230 Dry Cut Saw
Ingersoll Rand Air Tools
Snap On Tools
Metabo Power Tools
Norseman Drill Cutting Tools
Bosch Power Tools

Yeah, I need to practice. Ang kaso mainipin ako, gusto ko sabak agad. Sanay kasi sa computer na
pwedeng mag-undo.

Go, Joey! Konting grinder lang yan maganda na. 🙂

Hehehe. Exactly what I did.

Mastered mo na talaga, rosy! I tried to weave, butas. Yung kasunod puro spot na lang kaya tumino. Learning slowly.

Thanks for the tip, JayL. I was using Wipweld 6013, laging dumidikit. Hindi katulad nung ginamit natin sa warehouse.
Same question as jon: how much?

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Toolec Inc.

http://www.eyp.ph/search?q=toolec&loc=&vstype=basic&fzq=&x=16&y=7

I believe the Cigweld Ferrocraft 22 rods was priced around 500 pesos or less for 5 Kg. It was on sale at the time I purchased which is quite sometime ago already.

By the way this rod is for flat or horizontal position welding only.

@Jonathan

I could not remember the amp settings but will post it when I try the Yamato welder again.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Toolec is in front of the BMW showroom on C5, across the street from where Eastwood is.

That P500 per 5kg is a good price. I got my first kilo of 6013 at a local hardware for P100. I hope their price is still same. Will check it out soon.

It has a spec of 611254 so I'm not sure how its properties correspond to the four-digit number we know (e.g. 6013).

BTW, got this info from a supplier site:

[COLOR="Blue"]CIGWELD FERROCRAFT 22 4.0MM
611254
Ferrocraft 22 is a rutile type high iron powder electrode for the higher productivity fillet and butt welding of mild steel in all downhand (flat and horizontal-vertical) positions.
Ferrocraft 22 is recommended for high production welding where large standing fillet welds are required. It is the ideal electrode for heavy structural welding applications such as tanks, frames, girders and beams, ship structures and rolling stock and general fabrication in the workshop or on-site.

Note that it should also be good for vertical welding.

Here's some CIGWELD specs: http://www.burnback.com.au/helppdf/depos.pdf
All Greek to me.

Bro joey81, I simulated your shall we say 1st metal project on some scrap angle bars that I have gathered here and thought it would be better for you to see how to join this angle bars than just explaining it by words and here are some step by step procedures on how it can possibly be done so not to burn your metals and punch a hole or two on the joints. I just hope this will help on your next project.

Got some angle bars of 1/16 of an inch thickness then cut to small angles to fit 45 degree cuts which will joined together, but first tack weld the metals together on the edges.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Here's the angle bars with the 45 degree cuts, joined together by tack welding on the edges.

Then applied more tack or spot welds on the joint one at a time letting each weld bead cools down before applying the next bead to prevent burn outs or metal warping.

Then applied another set of beads or spot welds in between the first set of welds to cover now the entire metal joint. Cleaned and wire brushed removing the slags to expose the final beads underneath.

Then grinded the welds up to the metal surface making the surface clean and flat and the joint shows as welded already.
