Grinded the weld beads up to the metal surface clean and flat. :juggle:

Toolec Inc.

http://www.eyp.ph/search?q=toolec&loc=&vstype=basic&fzq=&x=16&y=7

I believe the Cigweld Ferrocraft 22 rods was priced around 500 pesos or less for 5 Kg. It was on sale at the time I purchased which is quite sometime ago already.

By the way this rod is for flat or horizontal position welding only.

@Jonathan

I could not remember the amp settings but will post it when I try the Yamato welder again.

Thanks JayL

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

And for the other metal joint, this is another possible way to joined them metals.

On this next joint, I again applied weld beads but a bit longer then leaving a gap in between then apply again another longer bead, this is called stitch welding, again letting each weld applied to cool down before each application.

After removing the slags on the first set of stitch weld applied, I reapply another set, in between again of each weld bead applied , now closing the metal gaps in between the welds.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Closed every gap in between each weld applied.

Again grinded again the welds to the bare metal to make an even flat surface.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Now and for the side edges of each corner :

Applied the same technique of applying spot weld beads so not to burn the edges.

Then chipped off the slags to expose the weld beads applied.

With these images above, I have grinded the corner to the metal surface making a sharp edge of the angle bar. :chop:

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

And for the other corner to be welded :

Applied another set of weld beads on the corner joints, again letting each weld cools down then applied again the succeeding weld bead little by little to close down the gap.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Chipped off the slags then wire brushed the metal surface to clean the final welds applied. I did not grinded the welds any more since you know already how it will appear.

Bro joey81, I hope you take note of this simple procedure so you won't melt the metal and get some burned holes on the metal joints. :showoff: HEHEHEHE

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh I almost forgot to indicate, I used a 3/32" welding electrodes and lower my ampere settings at 80 amps for the flat surface and and 70 amps for the angle bar edges.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Very nice and informative post Bro Rosy.

An angle grinder is a metal worker's friend. It's good to have at least more than one and the best ones possible. 🙂

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

nice info, but wouldn't it be easier to first lower the amp setting on the welder to the proper one to avoid the blowout? 2mm isn't really thin, thus finding the correct setting wouldn't be so hard. I think no matter how he does it kasi if the amp setting is high the result would produce the same result.... imo....

Salamat Brader Rosy. Very helpful to us newbies.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

I would presume here that he used a standard E6013 welding electrode with a standard setting of from 90 amps to 140amps. I do not know bro joey81's ampere setting so I cannot answer for his weld application but maybe if he could have lowered it there could be a possibility of not burning the metal but then there is this factor again of length of time he applied each welds. If he applied his welds longer than usual, then the thin metal will be saturated with heat thus punching a hole.

Now on my part, since I know the angle bar is not that thick, so I used a 3/32 welding electrode plus lowered my ampere settings to 70amp and 80 amp to make sure I will not commit a metal burn out.

I have expressed to them during the testing of the weld machines that the thicker the metal is, the higher the ampere setting, and the thinner the material to be welded, you lower your ampere settings. I guess they are just so eager to apply welds on their project not knowing fully the proper information to be learned, but that's just ok, considered the mistakes as a learning experience and in no time they will eventually learn the ropes properly.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

For thinner metals probably better to use DCEN. Connect the electrode holder to the negative terminal of the Yamato.

DCEN= 2/3rd's heat in electrode, 1/3rd heat in work. You will notice the electrode become very hot by the end of a full run.
Good for root runs and thin material. do not use for general welding as fusion is a problem.

DCEP= 2/3rd's heat in work, 1/3rd heat in electrode. Electrode stays cooler.
Use for good fusion and normal thickness material only switch to EN if you are blowing holes.

AC=1/2 heat in work, 1/2 heat in electrode.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Update: Got a 5kg box of Cigweld Ferrocraft 22 at Toolec for P375. Going south on C5, Toolec is well before the BMW showroom; not across it as I earlier stated.
