Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Update: Got a 5kg box of Cigweld Ferrocraft 22 at Toolec for P375. Going south on C5, Toolec is well before the BMW showroom; not across it as I earlier stated.

Good price at 375 Php. What diameters are available from them? What dia did you bought? Thanks Sir Balarila

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

ALL YOU GUYS, NEW OWNERS OF THE YAMATO 200 amp DC INVERTER ARC WELDER,

I urge you to do these for your initial exercises, do it several times on a number of metal plates to familiarize yourself in applying weld beads correctly. For each bead applied, try to count 1,2,3 and see if your weld bead is still somewhat flat, then on the next row, apply your weld beads and count 1,2,3,4,5 and see if the weld beads applied has improved with more body. Now again on another row, apply weld beads on the metal plate, counting 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 after which see and find out after removing the slags if the bead now has improved with a full body, now if it does, just continue this exercises and you will be on your way.

I know you are so eager to apply continues welds on your metal and possibly start a metal project, don't rush it bro, familiarize first yourself with applying the welds until you become so confident in your minds that you can say, yes I can do this already without some hesitations. Actually mga bros, a long continues weld started from a single bead weld applied very close to each other continuously, so again, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and PRACTICE pa rin !!!

I want you to remember also that applying welds does not end there, still there are more to be learned and study, like choices in welding rods to be used, correct ampere settings, thickness of metal etc, etc, etc. so do also some reading and research on this subject.

Remember the saying, Practice Makes Perfect.

nice graphic illustration and very informative brad Rosy, this will give us the a better technique to strike the rod easily, specially to the newbie like me, keep them coming.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

For the second phase of the practice in welding bead applications, what I had in mind was this graphic illustration I made to serve as guide more or less.

Now the purpose of this drawing is for others to easily understand what I will be doing next, again on a piece of metal plate, I will sort of continue depositing weld beads one at a time and as I move along to the right end of the plate, my weld beads get closer to each other until they touch each other and would merge wherein I would deposit a continuos weld application using a circular motion or an " oscillating " technique.

After doing the above exercises, just continue doing the exercises in this manner, again to familiarize yourself, using wrist and hand control in applying the welds, please do this several time to help you gain confidence in applying welds,

GOOD LUCK MGA BROS !!! :rave:

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

OK, from my scrap bin, I gathered some metal scraps to use also for some practice welding for the new owners of this Yamato DC Inverter since tomorrow I am sure many will be doing some practice welding.

Since I have mentioned before in my previous post that for their initial practice, they should start with applying weld beads first one at a time so they'll get the right feel of applying beads and learn too how long will it take one to apply a single bead.

Anyway, I have picked or selected some scraps and formed an image just for the sake of putting or welding them up using only tack or spot welding.

Gathered some small scraps from my scrap bin.

Picked the small pieces of corrugated round bars and re arranged them to form an image or something plainly for the purpose of putting them all together by only tack or spot welding.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Then just continuously applied tack or spot welds on every metal joints using an ordinary standard 1/8" E6013 with an ampere setting of 120 amps.

And the out come or resulting image with all joints welded up :

And this is the unwelded underside.......................

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Then welded up again this side continuously,

And the finished underside.

Now what's the purpose of this exercise, well mainly in the process of doing a metal project in the future, one has to learn first how to apply weld beads properly specially when tacking of two metals will be needed. So you can see by simply tacking or spot welding, I was able to put together or weld metals together with out weaving except on the back side of the image where I already performed short weaving patters on the middle part of the two corrugated steel bars.

For my next exercise, I will again use and pick some of the metal scraps and form another image or so and show how they will be welded.

Re: Let's practice STICK WELDING, and proper weld bead applications.

Brader Rosy. While practicing, I noticed a GI pipe here. Is 1/8 in dia 6013 enough to weld a 1in dia pipe and 12mm sq bar? Or 6011 instead?
