i have a scrap 3/4 x 1.5 square tube..a left over material in my previous project..
kesa kalawangin lang, i came to an idea to make it something useful..:D
a scrap steel deck galvanized sheet which i aquired to my cousins unfinished apartment..
cutting and trimming..it will serve as a tool pan..
grinding sharp edges using flap disc..
Re: mechanics stool
i drilled it first..because even my small electric drill will not fit if i weld them first..
dry fitting the tool pan in stool base so i can make corrections if ever there's a gap or whatever that need to be corrected..
setting my machine to 100 amps for easy starting an arc..if you are using a ac welder 70-80 amps will be fine..
tack weld four corners to prevent warping..
Re: mechanics stool
after grinding..
dry fitting again..checking if there are warping occurred..so far wala naman..
my diy chipping hammer will be sacrificed to complete my project..anyway i am not using it anymore..special thanks to sir joey81 for providing me a set of pro chipping hammer..i really like it promise..hehehe..
Re: mechanics stool
there's a large gap in one corner joint that need to be patch..so i lower my setting s to 70 amps..
If I have a large gap like the above I usually cut mig wires to use as filler before I tack and then full weld. It helps control distortion and movement of the miter pieces.

Re: mechanics stool
one thing about metal working is you can even recycle even a small piece of metal to turned something more useful..
installing the legs..
and top base..
after applying rust converter to prevent rust formation..
Re: mechanics stool
im in to metal working but this doesn't mean i don't love wood working..in fact most of my projects have a bit touch of wood..para hindi nakakasuyang tingnan..
4 pieces of flat bar..cut and drilled for the 3/4 ply board catch..
then weld it in the bottom..
after welding..
Re: mechanics stool
then drill the bottom base for wheels..
adding support to tool pan to prevent bending when i load it with some of my tools..
ready for painting part..
after painting..color it lemon yellow to blend in my work shop..i attached the tool pan using riveter in inside wall of square tube..

thanks for the tip sir jay..yes you are truly right, large gap can cause distortion..you can use welding rod [remove the flux]act as a filler or finishing nail will do..but in my case i just apply one bead at a time let it cool for a moment then redo this process until the gap are filled..very minimal ang distortion and can be correct by applying pressure to straightened it..
Re: mechanics stool
thanks sir timber..appreciation coming from the pros here in this forum made me happy..
i seen a lot of your work too..indeed it's work of a genius or with passion if i may say..:thanks:
