mechanics stool

i have a scrap 3/4 x 1.5 square tube..a left over material in my previous project..
kesa kalawangin lang, i came to an idea to make it something useful..:D

a scrap steel deck galvanized sheet which i aquired to my cousins unfinished apartment..
cutting and trimming..it will serve as a tool pan..

grinding sharp edges using flap disc..

after gathering the desired length..cutting is the next process..

due to lack of materials needed some of them will be join together to complete my project..

i drilled it first..because even my small electric drill will not fit if i weld them first..

dry fitting the tool pan in stool base so i can make corrections if ever there's a gap or whatever that need to be corrected..

setting my machine to 100 amps for easy starting an arc..if you are using a ac welder 70-80 amps will be fine..

tack weld four corners to prevent warping..

there's a large gap in one corner joint that need to be patch..so i lower my setting s to 70 amps..

my diy chipping hammer will be sacrificed to complete my project..anyway i am not using it anymore..special thanks to sir joey81 for providing me a set of pro chipping hammer..i really like it promise..hehehe..

If I have a large gap like the above I usually cut mig wires to use as filler before I tack and then full weld. It helps control distortion and movement of the miter pieces.

one thing about metal working is you can even recycle even a small piece of metal to turned something more useful..

im in to metal working but this doesn't mean i don't love wood working..in fact most of my projects have a bit touch of wood..para hindi nakakasuyang tingnan..

4 pieces of flat bar..cut and drilled for the 3/4 ply board catch..

then weld it in the bottom..

adding support to tool pan to prevent bending when i load it with some of my tools..

ready for painting part..

after painting..color it lemon yellow to blend in my work shop..i attached the tool pan using riveter in inside wall of square tube..

very useful when adjusting/cleaning/repairing brakes..or re greasing wheel bearing too..

thanks for the tip sir jay..yes you are truly right,large gap can cause distortion..you can use welding rod [remove the flux]act as a filler or finishing nail will do..but in my case i just apply one bead at a time let it cool for a moment then redo this process until the gap are filled..very minimal ang distortion and can be correct by applying pressure to straightened it..
