This is my WIP, long over due for the " STICK WELDING on thin sheet metals " pips.

I never thought this WIP will be such laborous in nature, again lots of de-rusting, metal cutting, grinding and welding on the said different parts applying what I have accomplished with regards to the practice in progress. I have accumulated lots of pics for several stages of the components of this projects and I think more pics will have to be taken to be able to record its continuous build, up to its completion.

There were instances in the early stages that I would forget to record and take pictures of the build, sorry for that but I guess that will not really affect the over-all built of the WIP. Maybe what is important here is the general process of the project and let us just wait for the end result, it might just end up somewhat a sculptural piece.... LOL I HAVE ALREADY IN MIND how this will come out with the trimmings and hand painting graphics installed. Yet it is still far from being completely done.

OK this is how I started this WIP :

Gathered again some excess C-Purlins of 2" X 3", cut the lenght to about a bit shorter than the size length of a welding rod, then flatten one side so I can join two sides giving me a size casing of a 2" X 6", enough to carry some 3 or 4 kgs 6013 welding rods.

De-rusting the surfaces inside and out using a flap disk sander.

Then gathered another set of C-Purlins :

Another batch here of C-Purlins that I have fitted in to each other to form a casing which will be welded together. If you can see in the background the first set of C-Purlins that I have welded already, like what I said, I was not able to take pics of how it was welded, but it was a full welding on its metal connection.

Anyway on this second batch of C-Purlins, I started welding using the spot welding on the first casing.

TO CONTINUE :

The cleaned and finish spot weld.

On the second casing, I applied the welds differently, I used the stitch welding approach

OK then all my rod casings have been welded, will set them aside for a while and start working for its base.

Found some two 1/4" thick scrap plates, cut them to the required size, used a flap disk sander to remove some annoying rusts, then welded them up together.

Here are two close ups of the weld, beveled the plates, made a root pass then applied two weld cappings, the top and the underside. LOL, sorry again no pics of the underside.

EHE HEHEHEHE, Oo nga ano, buena mano for the metalworking thread !!!!!

Well I started working on this project last week of November last year and have accumulated lots of pics stored in the camera, decided to start posting kasi nag kakahalo halo na mga shots plus mabusisi mag upload sa photobucket, minsan nakakalito, specially when re-sizing. LOL

And to continue with the WIP :

Cut some 1" X 1" X 3/16" ao that I can make a base frame for the flat panel base.

Here's the metal frame spot welded from the underside, hehehe, sorry again forgot to take a shot but anyway it will be shown when I start welding the flat panel base to the metal frame.

These two are just the same shots only of different angles. HMMMM problem with showing metal WIPs, they all look brown and rusted, walang ka kulay kulay. LOL

These three pics are just close-up shots of the underside spot welding.

Then started welding the topsides of the plate and the angle frame but realized that doing full welds warps the angle bar frame so i decided to add supports underneath..........

These are shots of the underside with two angle bars added and welded for support not for the plate but for the sides of the angle bar frame.

Then after completing the underside support, I continued welding the top plate and the angle bar frame and here are the results of my full welds :

All sides took three weld passes and decided to retain and show the nice weld weaves instead of grinding them all down. I really enjoyed doing these weld manipulations on thicker metal for I am sure no holes will be punched. Oh by the way the rod I used here is a 6013 standard size Nihonweld and using a 90 AMPS in the welder's gauge.

Re: Rotating Welding Rod Casings or Stand....a WIP for the Stick Welding on thin shee

After completing the welds on the top plate and the angle bar frame, I started to work on the sub base frame of the plate where a wheel bearing possibly will be attached and welded with supports, I said possibly coz I am still trying to figure out what else to use so that the top base will rotate smoothly.

Got some of my excess T bars, this are used for fabricating steel window casements, anyway cut them up with my DEWALT abrasive chop saw.

Re: Rotating Welding Rod Casings or Stand....a WIP for the Stick Welding on thin shee

And after cutting to an specified length, again started cutting them again in the middle with somewhat 18 or 20 degree slant.

Purpose of the second cut was to be able to form an octagon base frame which will require me to do again lots of welding on every joints.

Re: Rotating Welding Rod Casings or Stand....a WIP for the Stick Welding on thin shee

Started the assembly of the sub base octagon by applying welds on all the metal joints.

And on this assembly, I used the 1/8" special Nihonweld 6013 welding rod.

TO be continued !!!!!!!!! nakaka pagod ng mag post, sakit na shoulders ko, tomorrow again.

THANKS for viewing !!!!
