@ jonathanscruz68,

HEHEHEHE, bro jon, not really, nagkataon lang na naipost ko 1st day on Jan. Kinda busy too last December. I don't think the metal working WIPs will be able to overtake the wood working WIPs here, mabibilang mo lang kami sa mga daliri ng dalawang kamay mo, we are just a handful here or less pa nga compared to the woodworkers in the community. I just hope other members interested in welding or into metal working also chime in or participate and post their WIPs.

@ JayL,

Yes bro, thanks a lot and for sure more pics will be posted for this WIP and hopefully this project will be worth spending hours of grinding and welding......... 😀 :attack:

And to continue with the WIP :

After applying welds to all the metal joints, I used my B & D 4" angle grinder to grind and even out the excess welds.

Nice results of the welded joints.

Then after grinding the metal joints, I used my other 4" Makita angle grinder fitted with a flap sanding disk to smooth out all the grinded joints and the entire lower surface of the base.

To continue :

I used TATARA brand 4" flap sanding disk instead of a metal grinding wheel to achieve a well smooth metal surface.

Her's a close-up of the sanding flap disk on the grinder and I highly recommend this Japanese brand. 😉

Re: Rotating Welding Rod Casings or Stand....a WIP for the Stick Welding on thin shee

Flipped the metal frame and clamped it to my unfinished welding positioner so that I can easily rotate it easily while sanding also the top surface of the octagon metal frame.

Two pics showing the sanded top surface of the metal frame. 😉

@ jay, I think its an I-Bar gamit usually for steel casement window.

Yes Bro JAY, that metal stock is commonly known as an I-Bar as bro fortnapz have mentioned, or sometimes here in our place they would call it a T-Bar and they are used when fabricating steel window casements. This bar is welded horizontally on the upper part of the casement which holds the fixed window glass.

It is also welded vertically dividing the whole casement frame, depending on the required number of panel openings in a casement window. It would go hand in hand also with another bar called a Z-Bar which are also made into frames that will hold naman the large glass panels. 😉 :p

AND TO CONTINUE WITH THIS WIP :

These are pics of the top view surface of the octagon metal frame showing each metal joints that have been welded, grinded using an angle grinder plus sanded the entire surface using a flap disk sander.

Re: Rotating Welding Rod Casings or Stand....a WIP for the Stick Welding on thin shee

Well not completely satisfied with the result, I still somewhat played with it some more and decided to apply a uniform weld caps on all the joints. My purpose for this is to show good welds on every visible joint surface for this project, using the right welding rod, the right amperage to achieve a nice bead weld plus using the proper speed travel and weld manipulation.

Its also a good exercise for applying good and acceptable decent welds.

Here are some more pics :

This is an over-all view of the welded metal joints of the metal frame and beside each weld are the pieces of slags that I have set aside and showed. It just lifted itself right after applying welds possibly due too proper use of welding rod and right amperage.

Re: Rotating Welding Rod Casings or Stand....a WIP for the Stick Welding on thin shee

Looks like the previous cleaning also helped made the welds look very nice bro. The slag tells me the settings used were optimal.

A welding WIP that looks good before painting will look great when painted. 🙂

Re: Rotating Welding Rod Casings or Stand....a WIP for the Stick Welding on thin shee

Again to continue :

Just two more pics to show the finished metal frame, with and without the slags.

With the slags

And with out the slags.

I guess finishing the different parts or components, I'm on my next stage, the rotating mechanism underneath the flat metal base and the metal frame. But for now, I will have to first apply Turco rust converter on the finished parts then will apply next metal primer before the assembly.

Again to be continued !!!!!! 😉 :p

Re: Rotating Welding Rod Casings or Stand....a WIP for the Stick Welding on thin shee

@ Bro JayL,

I was so surprised for there were no warping of the T-Bar joints during welding but before I started to weld the metal joints I first made some practice welds on some scraps of the said bar using different settings from 90 down to 60 AMPS and decided on the 60 Amps setting coz the higher settings would burn the metal terribly., and with regards to the welding rod, I used the special NIHONWELD 1/8" thin rod of 6013 to be able to produce a slim uniform weld bead application on all the metal joints. :p 😉

I already maintained using my other welder, the AC YAMATO because of its clear ampere settings compared to my other locally made welder which I'm having difficulty finding the correct and proper amperage settings, para bang laging tantyahan na lang 😮 when using this kind of welder. LOL 😀
