Re: Yamato DC 200A Inveter Welder in Action
I used 6013 rods ... for this round part probably drag rods would have been a better choice for me.
Dry fit is ok but the WIPs quality is unacceptable ... I'm going to make another and just use this one for weld stress and break testing using a BFH.
Selecting a pipe as extender was not a good idea ... if I chose a flat bar then it would have been easier to weld. But hey I wanted some practice on stick welding pipes hehhehhehe.

Nanghinayang ako .... inayos ko ng konti ... bukas reweld ko na lang. Wala naman problema sa fitting ... ugly welds lang so repeat muna.

Re: Yamato DC 200A Inveter Welder in Action
This is where my difficulties started ....
stick welding round stuff is not easy ... I reckon this needs a lot of practice
Bro JayL, I guess the problem began at the beveled edge of the tubing, IMHO, there was no need to bevel it since the tubing is really not that thick, I thinks its only 1/8", that's about gauge 26 only but if it was a gauge 40, 60 or 80, beveling it is a must.
Now the real problems started ... LOL
Unacceptable welds ....

On this one bro JayL, Maybe masyadong nababad yung manipis na tubing beveled edge ng tubing, that is why you burned it to much when you applied your welds. What I usually do is fill it up with spot welds all over, clean it up, grind then reapply again another pass of stitch welds all over again, I know by this time hindi na sya mabubutas kasi thick na and wall ng tubing.

And for this one bro, using the E6013 rod was just fine, the E7024 would be fine too but what is important here is knowing really the technique of applying the welds specially when the wall or edge of the tubing has been reduced.
Yes using a flat plate or bar will make things easier but how will one learn to apply welds on GI pipes if one will not try it, OKs lang yan bro JayL, kahit mabutas, we learn from our mistakes plus as we apply another pass of welds, andyan naman yung friends natin na angle grinders and die grinders to help out shape the welds, diba !!! hehehehe
Bro, nothing in my comments criticized your wips, I'm just pointing out possible way to be of help in a way so you can improve next time you try welding on GI pipes. I know for sure you could have done the wip much much easier and faster with your MIG, but of course like what you said, you like to practice applying stick welds on pipes, and thumbs up for that bro.

Re: Yamato DC 200A Inveter Welder in Action
Bro Rosy ... you nailed it. I don't know what went inside my head and I beveled the pipe when in fact I just wanted to clean up the burrs while on the bench grinder. I did cut the angle using the chop saw. I forgot that I was going to stick weld it and can't control heat easily.
I appreciate your comments bro.You have a lot of stick weld time under your belt and I value your opinions on this subject very highly.
Stick welding on pipes is not as easy as you make it look like in your wips. Please do post more on this to help out others like me do short cuts.
Thanks a lot.

Washing Machine wheel base repair/wheel casters replacement :
Well I will be repairing swmbo's washing machine's "Adapmo" wheel base, rubber casters have become worn out or have melted that it cannot be moved anymore. I guess I'll just grind the rivets holding the casters to the base then just do some spot welds on the new replacement and then do some de-rusting and apply a new coat of spray paint.

Purchased the 3" PVC casters at a DIY Shop near our place, I guess in no time this "Adapmo" wheel base will be rolling once more !! 😉

And to continue with the DIY repairs :
Did this over the weekend, started working on the "ADAPMO" Durable Base, grinding or cutting the rivets head and dismantling everything so it can properly be cleaned and repainted.
Slowly and carefully cutting each head of the metal rivets that fastens the casters to the wheel base.
The worn out 2" rubber casters to be replaced by 3" PVC casters.

Re: Yamato DC 200A Inveter Welder in Action
Dismantled the whole base for easy cleaning and repainting.
Placed the small nuts and bolts in a small can then poured some motor oil. It will stay there soaked 'till the time I start assembling the whole "Adapmo" base. I'll be cleaning and removing rust too on these small nuts and bolts. 😉

Re: Yamato DC 200A Inveter Welder in Action
EMERGENCY SAFETY GRILL :
As I was working at the "ADAPMO" base repair a few days back, I was interrupted by an unexpected development, I found out the next day that someone was trying to gain entrance inside our pumphouse, where the Mechanical Jack pump is located beside the laundry area, maybe that someone has been eyeing that electric motor. Anyway without too much thinking and with quick decision, I decided to make/install a window grill that will protect the concrete louvers opening located at the rear wall.
The metal grill was so simple in design/construction but is has to be installed right there and then, no pics of the project, it was a rush rush one to immediately weld the metal grills. I cut some 6 pcs of 12 mm corrugated steel bars to 42 3/16" in length to serve as horizontal bars, then some 33 pcs of 3 1/2" length as the vertical bars. De rusted every thing by using a grinder attached with a wire brush.
Here are some pics as I was almost done with the metal grill, just needed more grinding then I'll paint it with metal epoxy primer.
These are shots of the safety grill installed, sort of gave me some neck pains coz it was kinda high and welding in front of your face then going up or overhead. Just have to finish grinding the welds then apply some metal epoxy primer.
And this is the cause why I had to immediately install a safety grill, the guy/s where trying to little by little break the concrete louvers and possibly get in !!!

Well I do have to say, I'm glad I purchased this Yamato DC welder, simply very portable and versatile, you can carry it anywhere and simply plug it into an ordinary electrical socket. Compared to my other 300 amps Yamato that is so bulky and so heavy. 😮

Re: Yamato DC 200A Inveter Welder in Action
Quick and necessary projects like this make that welding machine worth it.
Re: Yamato DC 200A Inveter Welder in Action
Sure is bro Ding, it was worth it, but I could have done it with the other Yamato 300 amps, yet this one, the DC Inverter was easier to carry any where. Well while doing the metal grills, it reminded me of the practice welding I did on pages 14 and 15 on the other thread, "Let's practice Stick Welding Application ........................" .
Oh by the way when will you resume your work on the angle bar racks you made before with your son ???
