Re: Yamato DC 200A Inveter Welder in Action

The very first weld on an actual WIP miter joint ... a continuous drag rod run ... rod just slightly touching the metal joint and done in one continuous full weld pull motion

slag clean up

7024 rod after use tip grinding to remove flux cover and expose the metal inside ... I'm sure 7024 users now know why this needs to be done

Ayos bro JayL, nice posting of metal Wip project !
Notice ko lang parang masyadong mataas ampere setting mo for the drad rod 7024 since 1.5mm thick lang ang tubulars mo, ok lang siguro yan if 1/8 or 3/16 of an inch ang kapal ng bakal.

Ayos bro JayL, nice posting of metal Wip project !

I will be finishing the wip using a Mig welder only because it is more convenient though much more expensive to operate. The point is the Yamato welder can do a good job on the same wip albeit just more time consuming compared to Mig.

Maybe because my 7024 rods are a bit old already ( maybe 2 years inside the DIY rod holder ) thus need more amps to burn. I noticed that while it is consumed it burns better so probably I could have lowered the amps before continuing.

I can come in hot on the 7024 drag rod on 1.5mm tubes. The secret in not burning holes is to let it touch the joints just lightly while moving a bit faster on the travel speed. Joint fittings will also be a factor ... tighter joints for less probability of burn though.

Re: Yamato DC 200A Inveter Welder in Action

Yes bro JayL, I noticed while comparing your two different weld application between the stick and the mig, sa stick, I imagined that you probably have to travel a bit faster when applying welds so not to punch a hole onto the metal joint, thus creating a welds that is somewhat a bit un straight or uneven, and comparing it to the mig application, it was more shall we say straight and very decent weld deposit, very solid, perhaps since with a mig, wire consumables are thin and ampere setting is not that high, kung baga it is easier to control plus probably your hands were resting on the weld table kaya controlled na controlled and weld application. 😉

Now that is how I see it, just correct me if I'm wrong or mistaken. 🙂

You are right bro ... and it was the first weld of the rod so full length pa ito. For MIG it is easier because the gun is lower to the metal plus I can support the nozzle with my gloved fingers if I wanted to make a really straight weld. Add to the fact also that the last time I was stick welding was around 2 years already while I am well practiced using the Mig gun.

With more and more practice, one can probably stiick weld like mig using this Yamato welder and 7024 drag rods. Just needs more consistency in welding rod travel speed to make even filler deposits. The Yamato produces a soft arc that is easier to control compared to an AC welder using the same rod.

I would prefer 2mm square tubes when using this Yamato but 1.5mm is good already. Thinner than this I would not use it if given a choice.

Sorry, Rosy. Have been out all weekend and my son is in the province so hindi gumagalaw yung rack na ginagawa namin. I will take somephotos and show people here some excellent examples of how NOT to weld. 😉

Re: Yamato DC 200A Inveter Welder in Action

Pasensya na. Ngayon lang nagkaroon ulit ng oras para makagawa ng long posts.

This came from the other thread, posted May 21:

Finally got the chance to play around with the Yamato on Sunday evening.

Found some left-over angular bars, maybe 2mm thick. Cut to length with a jigsaw loaded with Bosch blade for metal.

This should keep it square while I weld:

Butas!!

Much better than the first one:
