Here I have a very very simple project, its a rehab of an ironing board footing, wifey's ironing board that she has been asking me to fix for about a month ago since the rubber plugs would always be worn out often and would scratch the tiled flooring of the service kitchen annex.

Tips of the ironing board legs have become deformed in a way, have become sharp and already living some scrapping marks on the tiled floors. Tubing is very thin, about 1mm.

Gathered the materials needed for the rehab, some two pcs. of 1/2" X 20" in length of GI pipes which I will be welding across the the two end pipes. Now this will be a challenge for the Yamato DC Inverter weld machine since two different thickness of metal will be joined together, hmmmmmm, or may be this will be a challenge for me too, on how will I be able to weld these two metals together with less damage on the thin tubing.

Bought some rubber plugs, then prepared the ends of the GI pipes, cutting some 4 pcs of 2" in length of GI pipe tubing to be welded to the end of the 20" long GI pipes.

Then started working on joining its pieces patiently measuring and tack welding the joints.

With the aid of these welding magnets, tacking has been made easier and accurate.

And then after completing the tack welds on each joint, I started applying welds on the joints, applying short strokes one on top of the other, not spot welds but short strokes.

Now after applying a first set of welds on the joints, I'll clean it up and check for worm holes or weld craters then would clean it by removing the embedded slags inside and then re apply another set of welds on top of the previous welds.

These are very simple tools used for cleaning those weld craters. A sharpened concrete nail or a sharpened tip pin punch.

Now if all the welds applied were properly set, then I start the clean up by grinding the weld puddles deposited almost up to the base pipe joints.

After doing the joints, its time to clean the whole pipes.

Using a flap sander attached to my 4" angle grinder, after which I would follow it up with a buffing disc for stainless steel.

Successfully welded the GI pipes to the thin tubings of the ironing board by carefully and slowly sticking the rod first to the thicker pipe then to the thin pipe. My ampere setting would play from 40amp to 45amp to 50amp then 60amp.

Well after dry fitting and inspecting all the welds, I simply applied two coats of metal epoxy on the new welded tubing so not to attract rust on the surface of the cleaned GI tubing.

nice work brader rosy. talagang they dont make iron horses the way they used to, the ones built with really thick and good wood, just like the ones of our childhood hehe

Thanks brad morrisey. Yes what you say is true about the wooden plantsahan before, I remember when I was still a kid, my parent's ironing board was made of 2" x 3" wooden frames and legs with 1 1/2" thick na tabla.

Yeah bro joey81, that will be a great wood working project too for you, now I can't wait to see you make one, a really sturdy wooden kabayo for ironing ni swmbo mo, similar to the" kabayos " of yesteryears.
