Re: handplane tuning and basics

Workbench, maybe you can try what i did with my wooden plane. I placed a strip of masking tape on the slope bed where the plane iron rests. it adds friction so that may hold it in place

Re: handplane tuning and basics

I just finished tuning my No.4 today. all I can say is I'm so pleased that it works much better than it always had.

a half-round metal file will make the work so much easier, so bring one if you have one. 8" long are adviced but 6" will work too, nothing shorter...

bring sharpening stone if you have one, you will need it to finish the sole of your handplane and sharpen your blade.

sandpaper... I did not use any as it would take very long and and make the sole not flat... So you need not bring any unless you will sharpen your blades with them (scary sharp system)

if anyone has another bench vise for metal or would that can be clamped to the table, please bring as I have only one (sharing means will take longer) or I believe a clamp and some ingenuity can do the job.

Workbench, confirm ko na ang date at Feb 5, same time at 1pm.

to participants: I will start giving instructions at 2pm so please come earlier...

this is free so please be prompt and bring food...

Myself and Moji will be guiding participants 😀
please sign up if you are sure as I will limit the participants to 3 people only (first signed up, first served). but others can come, eat and chat with us...

Participants list:
1. workbench
2.
3.
4. **can sign-up in case one cannot make it for whatever reason...

Dumb mistakes will always be dumb mistakes, unless . . . . you learn from it, and then it will be learning experience.

Re: handplane tuning and basics

Me likes green =).

I was trying to have a feel of Sir Timb's workshop. Work-flow, storage solutions. Having only one metal toolbox to stuff everything, I sorely lack shelves and drawers. Saved a few tin and plastic cookie containers but i still could use some more. Really could benefit from better organization. And my current 4-foot workbench sure clogs up easily. A 5 footer, with a shelf below for projects enqueued is a fantastic increase in real estate for me.

And yeah, i still could tune up my planes some more, my smoother as it is now can't take fine shavings... and the blue compound on the sole sure showed why.

Anyhoo, thanks for inviting us to you shop. See you guys around when the online 4 arrives.
