Re: help me set up shop

You probably thought of this already: Extendable 110V and 220V power sockets hanging from the ceiling.

Actually working on something like that in my garage now.

Would love to see the finished setup.

Re: help me set up shop

The new shop is slowly fading into just a dream, i did however planned for floor sockets. Hanging ones are ok too but they often get in the way. Since the shop floor was planned, i know where machines would go to and therefore thought floor installed sockets would be a better choice. Of course, they would have easy to access breakers...

Yes Timb floor sockets are a very good idea for a newly built shop. However it would be an install nightmare for an existing shop like mine. The ceiling or hanging type would probably be the best option for me to contain cable tangles.

LOL ... electrical floor sockets no. Maybe air line piping if and when I want to move the Speedaire to the back where it should be in the first place. 😉

The wider chisel is good for this kind of task.

Any products or ideas how to do retractable/pull down ceiling outlets?
Must be...
-- inexpensive, such that one would not hesitate to deploy them liberally
-- look nice (if not almost invisible) when retracted

There are retractable power cord reels, but they are unsightly if hung below the ceiling, and usually too expensive and too long. And if you uncoil them only part way, there could be a heating issue with the coiled portion.

Just manually coiling the cable when unused is cheap but unsightly.

@guad

heat won't be an issue if you use bigger than specified wire. same principle as sizing wire embedded in a conduit - increasing the number of conductors in a conduit requires a higher rating of wire.

10hp is roughly 30 amps, well within g12 wire. at g10, kayang kaya na.
