Re: midnight club...

FWIW, there was an article on the death of the record store a few weeks back. Sign of the times. They've been languishing for a long time, but now we can officially call them dead/economically unviable (not saying it's obsolete tho.) Greenbelt's music one store closed down last month. I remember the tower records too that's no more...

It's happening too even in well to do countries: http://www.japanprobe.com/2010/08/23/hmv-closes-flagship-store-in-shibuya/

Hmmm...

Re: midnight club...

What input devices does your new audo setup take Timb? Is it at it's best when records are played using turntable?

Hmmm...

perhaps..just like the film cameras.

but even then, i still feel i am losing some music bits when i hear mp3's...

i want the music raw by itself..and let my hearing cells be the one to discard the sound frequencies it cannot detect.

further, its odd to find some people buying expensive dedicated headphones for their mp3 players!

what do you think guys?

I use a Rotel CD player (RCD-06) which provides a transparent sound and gives very good detail, a NAD tuner when I listen to the Radio (and I do a lot). but yes, I believe the best sound is still provided by records. Having listened to several set-up of audio geeks, malayo pa rin ang detail and depth that record provides.
I don't have a turntable, my wife made me promise her that I will not buy records. So unless someone donates some records (parinig na rin kay Doc :p) I probably will not venture in it. magastos pa rin kasi lalo na now.

I use FLAC ( Free Lossless Audio Codec ) much much better than MP3 imho, but funny as it sounds, I'm a bit deaf, but not with music. I like as much detail as I can get.
also after installing the tubes, I was getting fatigue from the sound. turns out that it was caused by early reflection of the sound... never have I had this problem until now. but after a quick fix, the detail is just wonderful...

Re: midnight club...

Just as I suspected. The records will make the setup shine.

Thanks for the info.

See you later guys. I need to replace 2 lower engine support at the center beam of my GSR. Air tools will make this job easy and quick. How I wish I had the space and a lift in the garage ( dreaming ) 🙂

For now no choice but to use jacks and jack stands.

Re: midnight club...

I've chosen a "mid-fi" path. Yun lang kaya ng budget =). Paradigm atom speakers, tho i don't have a working amp right now... something i could listen to while in the workshop or watching films in the pc.

Used a senn px100 for headphones till the foam disintegrated. Now use in-ears (nothing special- philips she9700) and am not going back. Noise isolation is what you need outdoors. I even wear it when riding jeepneys or trains (ear splitting beep when the door closes) w/o any music. Works in a pinch too if i need to vacuum or use the grinder =).

===
Do post some of the things you do in the garage JayL =). I, (most likely most of us) enjoy seeing what we don't know.

My car is all OEM. Leave it to the casa 3 times a year and that's that. ...Everytime i step on the throttle rather briskly, I get to upset the front of the car just a little bit. As if i went down a really, small smooth pothole. It always does that since i've had it. I'm guessing it's the OEM engine mount reacting to the torquing engine.
