Re: midnight club...
Went to this year's Philippine international guitar festival and saw some familiar faces and made a few friends and acquaintances. Those Thai guys are laid back btw. There's this 18 year old guitarist who made it to the last round of competition and he was very laissez-faire about it- we spent more time drinking at Dencio's than at the hall in the last day  (considering a lot of really good guitarists didn't make it, there's also this Indonesian who both of my guitarist friends admire- he made it through but made the mistake of drinking the local tap water and got sick lol.)
Talked a lot with this full time builder http://www.chantaguitar.blogspot.com/ who brought his 23rd guitar. As they say, "life happens/ happened" for me and i barely could spend time in my shop. *sigh* he's living my dream ^_^.
Here's a Spanish Ramirez, it's made in 1952, and the finish ( lacquer? i forgot, definitely not shellac) has checkered. It's the guitar to have especially when Segovia was alive.
Re: midnight club...
Guitarist Tomonori Arai playing a Japanese Asturias. I couldn't even comprehend the price, but the miters sure are close to perfect, and the finish is impeccable.
I was in love with the comfort model. A smaller shaped, shorter scale model. Looks rather adolescent/proportional isn't it? Notice the slight difference in the hue of the left and right side of the soundboard- it's bookmatched (came from same piece however there is some grain runout.)
costs an arm, a leg, and a kidney unfortunately.
Re: midnight club...
Lowest priced cedar topped model still cost 6 figures =/.
Friendly reminder to those who audition the guitars. The french polish (shellac) reacts to sweat
First prize of the competition is a Yuichi Imai with a carbon fiber case. I was taken aback by the satin looking french polish- so thin it isn't enough to completely smooth out the surface. So the top is free to vibrate anyway.
