Re: PHM Quick Chat Corner
Bro JayL, pre, I-Beams would look nice and simple attached to the 2 wall post and probably bolted to the floor, but putting it up with the horizontal beam attached or not would be a pain in the back, believe me its not gonna be a joke, I have experience lifting a lengthy I-Beam of about 3/16" thick only and a 6" X10" , when I had my terrace extended to add some space under for a three car garage. hehehe though I only have two karitons., bro napaka bigat. You will need some people or helping hands to lift those I-Beams.
I will not question the welding process, I know you can do that, but the assembly and lifting, that's a different thing, that is why I was thinking of the big pipes build, it will be easier to assemble and lift piece by piece or it can also be assembled down on the floor. With the right and proper supports I think it will withstand the weight of the engines you will be lifting.
Well just my 2 cents idea. 😉 🙂

A cherry picker would be another option but it requires floor space again just for storage.

Re: PHM Quick Chat Corner
Well I guess you can fabricate two A-FRAME supports fixed to the two wall posts permanently. With regards to the top beam, it can be welded already during the A-FRAME fabrication on the floor or lift it separately up then weld it when it reaches the top of the A-FRAME. 😉
Gagawa ka lang ng temporary scaffolding, probably made of some 2 X 4 good lumber or coco lumber which can be dismantled afterwards. :p

Mga Ka PHM Help lang po.:)
Kindly pm me in regards to my future Modular Pod Homes project. I'm still a newbie here but I hope someone from here is willing to give me some assistance with my future project. I need structural engineer that will be on site assisting the people who are experts in metal assembling.:)

Re: PHM Quick Chat Corner
Sir JayL, gaano ba kabigat ang car engine?:showoff:
we're using both overhead bridge crane (something similar to the image below but bridge support is fixed into the wall)
and portable/movable gantry crane
in lifting machineries for plastic extrusion. Hydraulic ba gamitin nyo o push type joist?
i-overhead bridge crane nyo para kahit saan kayang ihatid nung hoist nyo yung engine.
hassle lang sa gantry eh kung mabigat yung load kailang smooth ang caster wheel para magaan itulak kung ililipat ng location.
For 3-ton capacity
10ft wide (span) gantry I-beam depth should be at least 8" (1/2"thick would do).
for 15ft wide (span) I-beam depth should be atleast 10" (same thickness)
you should always consider how wide the caster frame spread should be.
for 10ft and 15ft wide span, i think minimum of 4' wide up to 6' wide for the caster frame spead. Caster wheel diameter should be 6"-8" if the height is 10-23ft high.
Hope this help!
Re: PHM Quick Chat Corner
Thanks bro. I don't have space for a movable crane in my garage. Either stationary rails or cherry picker lang choices ko.

how wide is your place? 4.5m wide? how about the height clearance?
Re: PHM Quick Chat Corner
Bro JayL,
You could be thinking of something like this bro or maybe similar, this one is movable. Borrowed from Miller welding projects.
http://www.millerwelds.com/interests/projects/ideagallery/project/5690269179/
A 3" or 4" diameter GI pipe schedule 30 will also be fine as its legs if you intend to do an A-FRAME type cranes. I've seen lots of this kind sa mga auto repair shops here in our area. GI pipes can easily be purchased from our favorite metal shops I guess. 😉
If you prefer the I-Beams, you can use a 3/8" or 1/2" thick, 6" X 10" wide I-Beams, length will depend on your specs. I think this will be more than enough for you intended purpose, kaya lang meron na rin syang paa with casters para movable, if not, eh di bolted sya sa concrete flooring. Now I just don't know where to source this and how much per foot or meter. 🙁
Hope this help !!!
Sir, meron bang 6" x 10" I-beam? san po kayo nakakakuha nun? european standard yang size na yan. locally alam ko 8" x 6 1/2" lang at 10 1/4" x 4". at mas mahal ang 8" x 6 1/2" kaysa 10" x 4". halos 4k difference nun.
Sir Jay, san source nyo ng bakal? mura ba?

Yehey! Please PM how much I owe you. And also directions to your shop just in case I need it before the next EB.

This one bro above is what I was thinking for bro JayL if he was really dead serious in fabricating one, this one is very useful and practical because its movable, I like it too plus ang sarap i-fabricate nyan if you have the right budget for it. Any way bro JayL's shop/garage eh medyo maliit din so I guess pinag iisipan nya ng masinsinan pa. 🙁 :p

Bro woodworkboy,
Brad, I get my I-Beams from a favorite scrap yard near my place, actually its a junk shop. There are larger size of this bigger than the 6" x 10" you mentioned. A few weeks back, I saw from his stock different sizes and the biggest was 8" x 12" x 10' in length nga lang., well of course these are just some scraps or left overs. When I went back a few days ago, wala na at nebenta na raw. I was supposed to buy some two pieces of 6" x 10" x 5' for a certain project in mind, kaya lang sorry naunahan na. 🙁
I think this I-Beams are being ordered from metal fabrication shops and you can indicate the size you will need. Or there is this one very famous BF Metals/Fabrication, you still remember those foot bridges all over Metro Manila, I think those steels and I-Beams comes from them, well just correct me if I am wrong.

Bros, I am puzzled by this new member " Max " if he is for real or a bot. His location states that he is from the USA, he may not really be an american but a pinoy staying in the US, pardon me for the observation but the way he talks, it ain't foreign but seems or sort of broken or carabao english.
Check out his post on the "Laughter, it is still the best medicine" thread and you will know what I mean, its a combination now of English and Tagalog. What can you say about this, is he a spambot or not. ??
That is why I am not responding to his posts 'coz I want to be sure. :p What do you think guys ??

Regardless of the language used, if it post like a bot, most probably it is a bot.
