Re: timber715 woodworks

Pasensya na. More questions. Nag-aaral pa kasi.

1. I can understand the "stiffen and stabilize" for sanding. Would ordinary cheap sanding sealers that come in those gin-bilog bottles achieve the same thing?

2. I recall you used to apply shellac using a ball of cotton cloth.now with a brush. Did you have to thin it more?

3. Does the shellac lessen the penetration of the stain? Or do you really sand thoroughly so the shellac just stays in the pits and grooves allowing the stain to still seep through?

4. If yes to #3, is there great risk that when sanding is uneven, you could have uneven staining?

5. I saw the screw you used as hinge in Video 2 before. Just thought baka you used a special one. Buti it doesn't come off after frequent opening and closing.

I'm surprised that

Pasensya na. More questions. Nag-aaral pa kasi.no worries brader :snow:

1. I can understand the "stiffen and stabilize" for sanding. Would ordinary cheap sanding sealers that come in those gin-bilog bottles achieve the same thing? yes it would but it would also give the wood a plasticy thick film unlike shellac wherein I can apply it in thin layers

2. I recall you used to apply shellac using a ball of cotton cloth.now with a brush. Did you have to thin it more? yes, it is thinned to act as a sealer. the nice thing about shellac.

3. Does the shellac lessen the penetration of the stain? Or do you really sand thoroughly so the shellac just stays in the pits and grooves allowing the stain to still seep through?
yes to a degree and yes will work well as a grain filler.

4. If yes to #3, is there great risk that when sanding is uneven, you could have uneven staining? yes, that is why I am using a glaze.

5. I saw the screw you used as hinge in Video 2 before. Just thought baka you used a special one. Buti it doesn't come off after frequent opening and closing. no need for a special screw ding, I used a kreg screw with a neck portion that isn't threaded (it stays in the hole) while the threaded portion screws in the cover.

I'm surprised that

Re: timber715 woodworks

Work of beauty. Was that gloss lacquer you applied last?

I have the same sander. Did you use a buffing pad? Didn't know you can attach one to it.

Re: timber715 woodworks

then I cut the material for the sides and the front...

again making sure the board still fits.

the outer portion? it does look good...

and with the front portion fitting, they match nicely...

now whether this will work or not, I do not know yet.

Re: timber715 woodworks

Very nice. A computer disguised as furniture!

What are you doing for ventilation?

How about the sockets (e.g. video, audio, etc)?
