Re: timber715 woodworks

Good afternoon Timber!
Last time you said that the John Benzen jointer is ok to buy if it is checked to be coplanar.
It's only 1-hp and the seller said it might not be suitable for really rough stock. It's for finer milling. He's
recommending a Taiwan-made jointer with 2-hp motor but it's double the price. Should I not
settle with the 1-hp machine since I would always be dealing with roughly power-chained boards?
Please advise.
Thank you.
Jojo

Jojo, would you be working with rough lumber? sana you can post the prices of both jointers and pictures if you have them. to begin with, I still do not have a jointer of my own though Chisel has a John Benzen that he is happy with, knowing the guy, he does crazy work with rough and even green stuff.
I think the 1Hp would be fine unless you want to do heavy cuts in one pass. making shallow cuts should not be a concern with the smaller motor, it will only require you a little more work making more passes.
Question: are these 6" jointers? have you come across 8" ones? I'm already on the hunt for one myself but I think I would like the wider capacity.

Re: timber715 woodworks

Thank you for the your prompt reply and advice.
I've seen only the 6"-jointer which is P16,500 - last price. Sorry I don't have a picture but if I would describe it, it has a bed length of around 1 to 1 and a half meter only; and has a guide rail. The unit I'm talking about has a slightly dented and rusty cover at the side probably due to mishandling - but it can be repainted. The cost of the 8" is between P65 to 85,000 (Torq and Golden Bell Marketing, respectively).
Ok na siguro yung 6", mura kasi.
I hope you can find also the jointer that you like.
Regards.

Re: timber715 woodworks

Jojo, what I really look ffor in a jointer is definitely a flat coplanar bed and I want it long both infeed and outfeed.

got some work done on the second audio rack for the show.

That'll be one tough sanding job.

Excellent work, as always, Timb.

Re: timber715 woodworks

thanks Ding, sanding really won't be much of a hassle since the chair is small.

had an hour to work on it

decided I'll do a little sanding but before I do, I decided to raise the grain and wet the surface. This process will also give me an idea how it will look when finished.

some closer view of the joints (pleas bear in mind this is still prior to sanding and some glue will still be on it)
the center stretcher.

the stretcher to the leg.
