Re: Aluminum metal working

yup a/c is used for aluminum, and there are two types of machines, transformer and inverter, used to have an inverter machine, they have better control of the welding parameters, i used to practice on cutter blades and soda cans with that one, only problem is they don't have parts when it broke, so i got a transformer type machine and with a local dealer for support....

Re: Aluminum metal working

Is this the same like your TIG Welder below

http://store.cyberweld.com/milsyn180sd2.html

( provided parts are available ) do you think inverter welders like this one would be a better choice because of better control?

http://store.cyberweld.com/dy200dxaipaf.html

In your opinion would the price difference be worth it? The inverter based is more expensive. tks

Re: Aluminum metal working

Yup, its the same synchrowave 200 package, the 200 dx is also an excellent machine but i hesitated in getting another inverter since there were some feedback in some forums where the 200dx failed. my old machine was a stel 200, similar to a us branded tig, htp, i think its the same machine, only rebadged for the u.s. market, although mine broke, its still an excellent machine, i've used it for more than 15 years, and they were way ahead in inverter technology, i've had my stel for 10 yrs when miller first came out with an inverter tig....

Re: Aluminum metal working

Butch .... did you buy your Speedglas locally or abroad? My Speedglas 9002X lens is back in the USA now for a warranty claim. I was having an On/Off switch problem. 3M in Nebraska is sending me a replacement as I post. None the less shipping it from California back here to me is my responsibility.

I just wonder what the local warranty for this 3M helmet is.

Re: Aluminum metal working

got my speedglas from the us, ordered it online, that happened to my first speedglas, had the problem with the switch so i opened it up and just re soldered the swith to the board, wouldn't want to spend much on a used helmet, ended up buying 2 more, the one with the wider lens, and the last one that i'm using is the one with the side windows...

Re: Aluminum metal working

Thanks for the tip.

I purchased mine in Ebay. It was listed as new but I suspect there was already a problem even before it got to me. None the less I'm so glad I'm getting a new replacement lens for it.

Looks like they are computerized. I just gave them the serial number and they knew I still had a year's worth of warranty left. Thus 3M suggested I send it back and get a replacement.

The problem I had was that the helmet was always ON. I could still use it at the default shade 11. However it would not turn off or change settings.

Glad to have a Pro Tig welder on this forum. Lots of info available in US forums but always better to have local guys. Given a chance I also would like to learn how to tig weld. I was eying a Maxstar but your posts have tickled my imagination on aluminum again. LOL

Thanks for sharing and please do post more of your work whenever you have chance.

Re: Aluminum metal working

For 2.5mm and below sheets i order from aa aluminum supply, they have a branch in evangelista makati but their main branch is along edsa cubao and they deliver whole sheets, for thicker sheets 3.5mm, i get from manta hardware along t alonzo near the river, they wont deliver small orders which is why i ask them to cut the whole sheets into 2 x 4 sheets which can fit in my suv. they also have tubes, pipes rods, bars, and angle bars there as well...hth

What do you think about the welding rotator? Looks easy enough to DIY one. Probably good for welding pipes.
