@ Sir butch11a

From the looks of your shop Sir parang kilala ko kayo... Eto ba yung shop na pinupuntahan ng mga racing enthusiasts sa Makati? Known for custom racing headers and exhaust systems fabrication. Ang dami and ang lulupit ng mga oto dito!

Re: Aluminum metal working

Something i made yesterday, an aluminum chopsaw workpiece stop, so that i can get consistent length pieces without remeasuring, just set the length of the stopper and make repetitive cuts.....

Re: Aluminum metal working

something i made yesterday, it was raining and nothing much to do so i decided to make a tape holder/dispenser for my Kapton high temperature adhesive tapes.....

btw, kapton tape is used to cover the ends of tubing during back purged tig welding to prevent the purging gas from escaping, back purged tig welding allows welds to penetrate thru the metal and leaves a nice smooth weave pattern on the inside of the tube, thus the need for high temp resistance, sometimes aluminum foil will do if kapton tape is not available.....hth

Re: Aluminum metal working

Bro Butch ... that's an excellent way to organize axial grip pliers ... but you have some more vacant slots thus need to get more pliers ... LOL.

By the way I ordered my Freud Aluminum blades already. Looking forward to try some aluminum works early next year.

Hope you will post more tips for us newbies wanting to work on this metal.

Thanks

Re: Aluminum metal working

yup, will soon be getting some j clamps and more edge clamps, there's so many kinds, i don't know if i'll ever need the rest....but its better to get them now than to regret not having them when their needed.....

when working with aluminum, the most important tip is always keep it clean, wipe down with acetone/thinner prior to welding and dishwashing soap after cutting to remove cutting lubricants.....hth

when tig welding, before i used to practice moving the filler rod on my left hand using my fingers, that way i don't have to stop welding to advance the rod in my hand, there's a product that does this called a tig pen...
