yesterday I got some materials

and started cutting

today I start stick welding, did some test weld to determine penetration and feel.

Re: My journey into welding/metalworking

checking the other side, seems to have penetrated properly though I could be wrong.

cleaning starts when I get my angle grinder. this will be for the bandsaw mobile base.

then I start trying the other project...

still a lot to learn, but I'm getting there.... "one bead at a time" as they say....

Re: My journey into welding with the Asea 200TIG

Ok, this 6013 thin rod of Nihonweld is for higher amperage, you could have used or increased the amperage on both metal surface, using the same amperage rating on both instead of 60 and 45 amps or you can change the welding rod to 3/32, this kind of rod is specifically for lower amperage like 70 to 90 amps only, perfect for thinner metals. The 3/32 is by INWELCO, Best Weld welding electrodes. It is also a 6013 rod but used for lower amps.

Re: My journey into welding with the Asea 200TIG

thanks Rosy, will look into it.
getting some info regarding the 6010 to be a good choice to prevent blowout. will get some later and give it a try....

@ timber

Bro changing the 6013 rod to 6010 will not solve or prevent blowout, the 6010 rod is still for thick metals and for hot passes and would require a high amperage.

After grinding it will be good Timb. Looks like penetration is ok but you will see this after the grinds. The metal fusion will show if completed properly.

Thanks rosy, but just listening to advice without trying leaves me dependent. I need to know why and what makes them different.
I do know the 6013 (filler rod) is designed for sheet metal welding and general purpose use. they also have more slag which makes the weld smoother and liquid longer. In fact the rod wants more amperage to keep it fluid better which makes it tie in better as well. (the fact that it is liquid longer is what I think makes me dig craters) and the rod leaves more slag which tends to interfere with the arc.
So going 6011 or 6010 (fast freeze with deep penetration rods) is one way of learning and finding out. I can read and get advice from videos and post, but without trying I will never really know. Hence my direction.
I did find something earlier....

Yeah that magnetic holder will surely make welding easier in terms of properly positioning the materials to be welded correctly . Timbs did you purchase that locally and how much is one, if you don't mind me asking, coz I too need a pair or so also.

Thanks.

Re: My journey into welding with the Asea 200TIG

This Gartool probably not from Panda? I knew they had only 1/4" in single cut. Your find is a nice double cut.

Glad to know 6mm is available .... hehehhehe worst comes to worst I can get one or two 6mm profiles and not purchase a new 1/4" collet electric die grinder anymore.

I could still use my 1/4" burrs with the air tools but its very expensive to run in terms of compressor electric consumption 🙁

Timb it's best to wear googles for burr cutting. I almost got some debris in the eye even when wearing the bionic shield.
