+1

For battle weary tools I reckon the prices are way high. Vendor says still negotiable so who knows.

Re: Bargain Alerts

Old tools are usually over built from my experience especially those from the U.S., Germany and Japan. These guys long ago mastered steel hardening so I wouldn't worry about them being battle scarred especially since these are only woodworking tools and not metalworking tools.

The problem really with the price of these old tools is that vendors usually benchmark them against the "per kilo" scrap value so at P25/kg a 1-ton machine will already be worth P25,000. On the other hand scrap metal prices, like real estate, nearly always go up.

Best though to know what to look for like for example the spindle of a drill press should have no play. No kidding, I've seen brand new MICs that do have noticeable play in their spindles.

Re: Bargain Alerts

Hey that's a pretty good killing! Maybe someone would like to buy my mine too since I actually don't use it much anymore. Normally I use a 10" sliding compound miter saw, or SCMS as you would put it. Consider getting a SCMS as these can handle much wider materials than those that do not slide.

ADDED:

I found a picture of the saw.

lncc, i was just back reading this thread. . . is this miter saw still for sale?

No bro, the one I'll be selling is a 10" sliding model. Sorry I don't have a photo on file. The main difference is that it can only be angled clockwise off vertical.

Re: Bargain Alerts

I'm still seeing some new old stock English Irwin or Record Marples Chisels floating around. Probably time to secure some for those who still have not. Soon these will be gone and replaced with Chinese made Irwin Marples.

English made Record blades are superior.

Re: Bargain Alerts

Hmmm. The original blade was not used except for testing because I upgraded to a Dewalt. I'll think about it because if I sell it then I have to add around 4K more to get a Makita w/o a blade.

Thanks
