I have a business trip to Hong Kong this Wed and back by Sat. I may have some time after work to browse. Are there any tool shops you'd recommend?

Did a quick search and saw:

Wang Tai Hardware
G/F 486 Reclamation street, Mong Kok

Wah Tat Hardware & Tools Ltd
Rm 1103 Fuk Kuen Industrial Bldg
6668 Tong Mei Rd, Kowloon

I also know the small shops in Reclamation street.

Also will check out those Mujingfang planes.

I don't have anything specific in mind.

If you had just a couple hours, where'd you go?

Re: Hong Kong Tool Shops?

Saan po pinaka-ok mag-shop for tools sa HK? I'll be going there soon for a vacation and I'm thinking, pag may natira sa budget (for electronics) bili ako ng tools.

Kaso diba marami mga fakes sa HK? Marunong naman ako tumingin ng genuine pero where can I find these stores that sells genuine stuff only? I don't want to waste time because we're travelling with our baby who doesn't like me being away for a long time. hehe

Thanks!

Re: Hong Kong Tool Shops?

Can you be more specific at to what kind of tools you are looking for?

To be honest Sir Bigfoot2, I have no idea. I'll probably just buy what looks useful for me. Perhaps some nice set of screwdrivers, pliers etc. definitely nothing that'll break my heart (and wallet!) if it gets broken.

Try mo sa Mongkok - Shanghai Street parang naalaala ko marami din dun...

Thanks Sir! I hope one week stay will at least enable me to roam around that area.

Re: Hong Kong Tool Shops?

For the Mujinfang planes, they have mentioned Wah Tat. For electronics, incl screwdrivers/pliers etc try Apliu st, Sham Shui Po MRT station.

Thanks for the generous offer.

I did find the shops. Even went to the Wah Tat's Mujingfang shop on the 11th floor of the building. It was kinda creepy going to the building, entering through the driveway, going up the somewhat rundown lift with a man with one bad eye loudly speaking in Chinese to me (can't tell if he were upset) who I ignored.

But the Wah Tat people were very nice. Got two planes and two chisels. In hindsight, should've gotten more because, after using them, found the quality excellent. Price at Wah Tat was also much lower than the ones on Shanghai street.

Re: Hong Kong Tool Shops?

...glad you found your tools. some staffs are poker faced and can sometimes be rude and loud.:D they dont smile alot and they hate bargaining customers, most of their prices are really fixed thats why. i had my share of tight situation during my shopping days before.:D but if you're lucky, you can find someone thats really helpful and patient.:)

@horsepower
...Just a suggestion, and these maybe a day shopping. For Computer, electronics:
Wanchai [Hongkong Island]
Computer Center
2C Bldg. 130-150 Hennessy Road, Wanchai.
Wanchai MTR Station - Exit A4 (just beside the exit, left side corner bldg.)

Wanchai [Hongkong Island]
298 Computer Center
298 Hennessy Road, Wanchai
Wanchai MTR Station - Exit A4 (a few blocks walk to the right side, along hennessy road)

Sham Shui Po [New Territories]
Golden Bldg
Cor. Kwellin St. & Fuk Wa St.
Sham Shui Po MTR - Exit D2 (just across the exit, leftside corner Bldg.)

...For a few selection of power and hand tools, electronics, sound system, cel phones, surveillance, etc., new or 2nd hand.
Sham Shui Po [New Territories]
Along Apliu St.- From Yen Chow St. Nam Cheong St.
Sham Shui Po MTR - Exit C2 or Exit A2 (Exit D2 is Golden Bldg - Computer Center)

...If ever you're in Wanchai you might visit a few stores here for Power and hand tools:
Wanchai [Hongkong Island]
Thomson Road
Wanchai MTR Station - Exit A3 (just beside the exit, left side. its that street curving
to the right)

...Tools in Mongkok are scattered in different shops, in diffent places.Bussiness starts at 9:30- 10:00 am closes at 5:00pm - 6:00pm. From Mongkok station Exit E1 or C3, you can comb Portland, Shanghai, Reclamation and Canton street if you have time. Make the corner of Shantung and Portland street as your reference streets. most shops will be on the left side of shantung st. some shops have always something that might interest your needs.

...there's always a big vicinity map in each MTR stations. better locate one. check it out
before leaving the station so you can familiarize your bearings. Hope these helps...:)

I think I recognize the street.

When I go there, I will have to tie my tongue up.

Re: Hong Kong Tool Shops?

...i know the feeling, thats why i schedule my walkabouts 2x a month na lang... its like tool porn when your inside showrooms. too many wants and likes...endless possibilities...hehehe...

...on your way there you will pass by makita's showroom (corner of reclamation st and shantung), it's only a showroom though.both milwaukee and makita showrooms are close with each other. if you want a makita brand you will need to visit the other shops whose a dealer nearby.

...and here's a hilti showroom and shop at shanghai st. corner of hamilton st.
