i found a place that sells some Makita power tools they don't have many, but what they have are real cheap i was thinking they were made in China with Makita brand, the Drill is an older version but new, the grinder is also new the drill P1650, grinder P1750 they both have made in japan on the tool and box, is their any positive way to tell if these are actually made in Japan, this store is owned by Korean, my brother in law says they are sneaking this tools in and selling them, maybe no VAT or something, as i say they only have two or three at a time. Having trouble downloading pictures but the Drill is HP 1600 replaced by HP1620 the grinder is 9556NB

Re: Makita power tools cheap

@ Johnwallace,

Hi there bro, most branded powertools nowadays are made in Taiwan/China, from Makita, DeWALT, Bosch, Black&Decker, AEG, Rigid and many more but I guess even though they are all from the Jackie Chan country, as long as they are all supervised by well trained technicians and follow strict factory standards, then they are good. But mind you there are also fake branded powertools scattered around so be very careful and watchful of those copycats. I saw one Makita powertool set, a drill and a grinder being sold at Php 1,850.00 and markings were just stickers on the pvc casing

I think the original Japan made Makita are those powertools encased in light aluminum casings and they are quite a bit expensive already if you can still find some. Now I cannot say about your brother-in-law's statement, maybe he is right or perhaps he is wrong, ask the seller if you can try to run the powertools and listen to the motor, usually them motors would sound so fine and quiet compared to fakes that sounds like there's no grease or lubricant inside the gearbox, you know the sound of metal to metal.

Re: Makita power tools cheap

yes the reason i ask i saw Dewalt drills that were fake had the sticker and all, these Makita tools have the name made in the housing, i was a member about a year ago but have been working in the US and just returned, i sold all my tools and am trying to replace what i need around the house, i had a lot of tools in the USA, you can pick up tools all over the place in the US, here a little harder not many for sale used, hard to find a good table saw here, i thought being close to Taiwan, China and Japan, there would be plenty, all of the Grizzly saws are cast in China, Jet is now owned by Powermatic also had some nice tools, Black and Decker Stanley own just about all the tool companys now, dewalt ,portercable and so on and have changed the quality of one company over the other, i use to buy Porter Cable but their quality has gone down after B&D bought them, i will keep buying Makita here they are good tools for around the house
