Hi. I have just purchased a Hi-tronic 200A welder and a Dewalt Metal Chop saw without even having touched a welder in my entire life (lol) due to the fun i have been getting reading the posts and adventures of our local PHM bakalboys.

I think I will be cutting a few dozen rebars with the metal chop saw but after that, I would like to use the chop saw like an unsophisticated miter saw. Is it possible? Can I change the abrasive blade of the chop saw into a wood cutting blade?

Did a cursory research, and I gathered that a miter saw and a chop saw (at least for Dewalt) turns at the same no load speed of 3800 rpm. Arbor size for both is 1 in. (5/8).

So can I use the metal chop saw as a miter saw if i change the abrasive blade into a wood cutting blade?

Thanks so much.

NEGATIVE !! A metal chop saw is and was made for metal. For wood its a miter saw or SCMS.
Please don't invite disaster that you'll be sorry afterwards !:nono:

Sir Rosy, could you enlighten us (and all of us who might be benefitting from the info) why changing the abrasive blade of the metal chop saw into a toothed blade for wood is not advisable. Would it be because of blade speed, power, vibration, etc? Thanks!!

just to revive this post. check evolution multi purpose power tools. their product lines like the evolution rage 2, rage 3, rage 4 are multi purpose cut off saw that can cut steel, aluminum and wood in a single blade. and you could even cut tiles, granite and bricks with a separate purchase of the diamond blade if you wish. lazada has it for about a staggering amount of 44k+ if you search for evolution rage 3

along with this post, i want to ask the experts here the details of the transformer that i should need to get this baby running as it is comes from US with 110v and 1800w rating.

i don't know why but i can't start a new topic/thread of my own so i just added on this one.
