hello all... this is my first post in this forums and pardon my ignorance to some extent as i am an absolutely newbie to this community and it is going to be my first time using a Rotary/Dremel tool...

first off...

i will be using the tool to mod my computer case... it's just pure hobby/DIY and no hardcore modding stuff expected... im looking around for this tool and got some feedback from PC modding community that Dremel is like a gold standard when it comes to this purpose...

i have looked around but can't seem to find one (sta. lucia, tru value/DIY in eastwood, ace hardware in sm marikina). i saw some alternatives though so i am asking for your expert opinions which one of these are worth it... though my purpose is just pure DIY, sayang naman pera kung bibili lang ng el cheapo at masisira lang agad... i will also be using this tool for whatever purpose it can do in-and-around the house as i am also quite a "handyman" who loves DIY'ing...

- B&D RTX something (expensive, less accessories with it) ~ 4.9k (sm marikina - ace hw)
- Lotus (great packaged accessories but i am not sure if this is a good brand) ~ 3k (sta. lucia - hw xchange)
- Maxsell (a little expensive than Lotus but not sure also if this is a good brand) ~ 3.4k (sta. lucia - hw xchange)

i also some brands online like JCK (kawasaki?)... it's kind of cheap compared to others that i saw so far and again would like your expert opinions about this.

thanks all and truly appreciate your inputs!

Re: Newbie on Rotary/Dremel Tool

Try Panda Construction Supply. They're an official distributor, and always cheaper than mall prices, by my experience. Search for pandatools at OLX Sulit to get their number.

They have one branch in Binondo and one along Araneta Ave.

Re: Newbie on Rotary/Dremel Tool

^ Thank you sir!

I called them up and looks like cheaper nga sila so far sa mga nakita kong ibang brands...

26 - 3k (available)
10 - 2.3k (available)
30 - 4k (available)

I think yang 26-kit is good enough for me... I'll buy nalang siguro additional accessories as needed later...

Re: Newbie on Rotary/Dremel Tool

Go Dremel. They take some abuse and still reliable. I have two: Rotary and Multimax and happy with both.

Got one Dremel when travelling abroad while the other one was at Sulit (now OLX). Got them when they were not distributed locally yet. My OLX source was kitkatlassy: http://members.olx.ph/kitkatlassy

As advised before, you may want to try Panda. You may also want to ask JayL or Joey81. Both thrustworthy members who sell goodies here.

Just curious, what is "modding a computer case"?

I always built my own PC. The one I am using now is now 6 years old so I am now in the middle of assembling a new one. Got an NZXT case, Asus Z97-pro mobo, 32gb of ripjaw dram, Intel 4790k with a hyper212 evo cooler, seasonic 750W PSU, and, for storage, a 250gb SSD connected via m.2 pci channel (for boot/Windows and some programs), a pair of 1tb WD black sata's on RAID0 for a scratch pad and some programs, and a pair of 3tb WD also on RAID 0 for data. Got a nice Ducky mech keyboard and 27-inch IPS LG monitor. I'm not a gamer but I do a lot of photography post-processing and music arrangements.

Since you are modding, I would assume you are a hardcore gamer who would consider my config as childsplay. Would be interested to know more of your mod and config.

Re: Newbie on Rotary/Dremel Tool

i both own dremel 3000 and 4000 model..mas happy ako sa 4000 kasi mas malakas ang motor at nakahiwalay na ang power switch nya compared to dremel 3000 model na magkasama ang on/off at variable speed switch.. mag dremel ka na lang bro hangang naka promo pa sa handyman:)

dremel 3000

dremel 4000

Re: Newbie on Rotary/Dremel Tool

PC Modding is pretty big here in PH.

Never go wrong with DREMEL when your hobby is PC Modding.

Features nalang nagkakatalo at feel while using the unit.
Lalo na pag sa dremel attachments and accessories.

Pero ang kayang gawin ni Dremel kaya din ni JCK.
Same goes sa other brands.

Re: Newbie on Rotary/Dremel Tool

I have the B&D RTX-6 which i bought years ago and i'm happy with the tool. Though Dremel was an option before, the RTX-6 was a better choice for me since it offered all the options of the higher-end Dremel 3000/4000. I admit though that Dremel has a lot more accessories for its devices which B&D lacks.

The tool is best paired with the flexible shaft to get into tight areas.

Tama si Coolmaxheric that other brands can also do what Dremel does.

thanks sir for the input!

well, you got one "halimaw" rig there 😉

actually, i'm no longer into gaming (at least not that much) and i am trying build something as small as possible... and usually, very small cases have no expansion slots (e.g. for graphics card)... so, my plan is to cut or drill the case to make room for a graphics card... 🙂

Re: Newbie on Rotary/Dremel Tool

The tool is best paired with the flexible shaft to get into tight areas.

i was also thinking of this and i just noticed, wala si dremel 3000 ng ganito... not sure yet how important this is for my purpose but considering the small size of PC cases, i think there will be tight areas indeed.

i saw one Maxsell unit and it has the grip handle as well as the flexible shaft... don't know the brand though but for DIY PC modding, i think it would not really matter since it will still get the job done...

is it true that dremel accessories are of better quality? i was told by one PC modder that he is only using JCK but his cutting disks were dremel's.

You can alternatively change the bits of different brands to use on your rotary tool. Yung Dremel nga lang kasi ang parang nag-specialize sa paggawa ng maraming attachments (aside from the bits). They have a lot of stuff I can't believe na kayang ilagay sa mga units nila. I've used different bits through the years (some from no-name manufacturers) just so to get the job done.

You can buy the flex shaft separately. And oh yes... I'll be the first to say that the shaft is a must-have attachment. Maliban sa bits, kung may iba ka pang bibilin for the rotary tool, unahin mo yung shaft and it'll make your life easier in doing what you need to do.

thanks sir! point well taken... i was seriously considering the one with a flex shaft already to save some extra cash... but i am also so inclined to buy dremel 3000 and then buy later (kung magka pera ulit) ng flex shaft...
