Pakulam.

My welding work has lots of bulutong in the hard to reach corners of angle bar joints. Can't clean it up with my cheap angle grinder. So I'm thinking a straight grinder would be the tool I need. Questions:

1. Is the straight grinder indeed the tool I need?
2. What would you recommend that I get? Price is a prime criterion as I only do metalwork occasionally, usually, in aid of my real hobby: woodworking.
3. Ano ang bala ng straight grinder.
4. Where do you get the bala?

Get the Flexible Shaft for that Hard to Reach Places.

If you're not doing cleanup often, it might not be worth the cost of
buying a straight die grinder. What I did early on, was to just buy a
tungsten carbide bullnose burr and mount it in a beater (in my case,
a deWalt that's seen much better days) electric drill, and go after the
hard to reach problems. If the drill is varspeed, so much the better
for control.

[COLOR="Red"]Now, a drill is the wrong tool for the task, but it's an expedient fix.
The burr eats steel with medium aggressiveness, and if you like how
it works, you'll be better-informed to consider a die grinder purchase.
I've been putting off such a purchase for 6 years now: I don't need it
often enough, and I'm just not into carving wood ...yet

Re: Straight Grinder

@ Ding,

If I were you, I'd keep and maintain the Dremel set for wood use only. For metal use, better get yourself a die grinder ("straight grinder" ), its the right tool to clean those unwanted and ugly welds in those unreachable angle corners. Bosch has one, same as Makita or DeWALT.

I am pretty sure you'll be using this often for those hard to reach areas where an ordinary angle grinder cannot do specially on some tight corners when cleaning up your welds.

You can get the grinding tip(stones) in a pack or singles at mall hardware stores or home depots. But if you prefer using the tungsten carbide bur bit, you can source it in Cainta junction, My Tools, beside Meralco bldg. Kaya lang mas mahal, each bit ranges from 500.00 to 800.00 pesos.

Good luck !! ;):attack:

Re: Straight Grinder

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes, Bro Rosy. I know that tool shop at Cainta junction. Very handy place for buying router bits.

I think keeping the Dremel for woodworking is good advice.
