Hello to all kababayan woodworkers..glad to see and join this forum..I just started collecting my personal power tools...unfortunately i bought 50Hz tools..german brand einhell..my question is will there be a big problem using this tools in our country..do someone tried using 50Hz tools and what went wrong? what can be the solution for me to still use this tools...like buying a frequency converters or likes or by reducing its speed by buying speed controllers? any insights on this matter bros..thanks and glad to join this forum.

regards,

Re: 50Hz Power Tools

welcome to pinoyhandyman Anthon, some of my friends had burn out problems using 50hz tools, do try to avoid them when you can. they just don't work long enough for value to be considered imho. as for freq. converters or Hz controllers, I have no experience on those...

Re: 50Hz Power Tools

thanks handyman for the quick reply.i tried to research on the effect of 50Hz to power tools and basically and one of the signficant change when utilizing the tools to a 60hz supply will be the increase in rpm to 20%, causing the overheating...so in this case i am thinking of compensating the increase of speed by controlling its speed where circuits are readily availble to build..well this are just theoritical since i have'nt tried this one yet..

anyway are there anymore insights/feedback on this subject bros? appreciate for any comments..cause I do not have option of returning back the tools i bought.

Re: 50Hz Power Tools

well, I was told by a friend that a speed controller works the same way, it decreases the Hz instead of voltage. haven't come across one though. goodluck

Re: 50Hz Power Tools

Welcome Anton. I've a long post here somewhere about this.

Basically, tools who's motors that have brushes are OK. Those that do not have brushes will suffer problems.

I know this for a fact because I have quite a few 50 Hz tools and the one's with brush all still work and I've used them A LOT. These often used tools are: 2 routers, a 10" circular saw, a 10" miter saw, a 7-1/4" miter sawl, a jigsaw, and two 6" random orbit sanders. I think the sanders prove without a doubt that 50Hz rated tool with brushes will work no problem because I have used these to sand a good area of boat hull.

Like the guys said, those without brushes are a no-no. They'll work at first, not as well as they should, and most likely eventually stop working. These would include tools like: compressors, band saws, scroll saws, etc.

Re: 50Hz Power Tools

@Joaquin

Bro, hammer drills have motors with brushes. The drill is not heating up because it is using 60Hz but probably because you are just using it heavily. All tools used heavily will heat up.

The reason is tool motors with brushes actually run on DC current, not AC. No there are no diodes in the motors. It is the motor itself that does the conversion via its commutator (the sparky thing).
