I made my first visit and met with the people from Bosch. the welcome was warm and it seems they do this to all that inquire, they will answer all the questions you ask (regarding Bosch of course) technical or otherwise. I am familiar with almost all woodworking tools they have, in fact I had and have most of them and more, so technically I asked little. Most of my inquiries were regarding the future tools they have in store for us. Sad to say they this coming out soon...

it is the GSR14.4-2-LI http://www.bosch-pt.com.cn/web/product/tools_detail.jsp?navId=511 ... just what the doctor ordered...
Specifications:
Battery capacity 1.3 Ah Li-ion
Chuck capacity 1.5 - 13mm
No load speed:
1st gear 0 - 450rpm
2nd gear 0 - 1,450rpm
Max. torque :
Hard joint 50Nm
Soft joint 15Nm
Max. drilling diameter :
Wood 28mm
Steel 13mm
Max. screwing diameter 7mm
Weight including battery 1.5kg

and I just bought my GSR10.8V LIQ. huhuhu is me. I need the bigger chuck capacity for my Kreg pocket hole joinery, so this is in my wishlist (praying harder now) hahaha. It is expected to be released in the market next week, I don't expect to see them in ACE nor Handyman just yet but my neighbors should have them on stock sooner than I would want, woe is me... I would see and try them sooner but ... actually tried it already and it is a joy to hold, fits small hands like us asians, well balanced, comes in dual speed settings built with Lithium Ion batteries that hold power 400 time more than the NiCads and much lighter too.
oh well, moving on, they are expected to sell a little below 10K so I was told, so get your wallets ready, on your mark, get set... huuuuuuuhuhuhu. Merry Christmas. hahaha.
Also, regarding the seminar/tool demo, let us just wait for the Philconstruct event to finish as it does entail them plenty work and after they will set a date for us... so keep tuned regularly.
now, for the other displays, pretty ladies are always common on expo's like this though I hardly look at them (hehehe, surely...), there are lots on display to arouse an interest in everyone who loves to work with their hands. Panda Construction supply has their special tools for automotive, router bits, hold down clamps, Dremel kits... just to name a few.
Just beside them is Golden Bell that is selling woodworking tools! yep, tablesaw, bandsaw, mortiser, RAS, jointer and even a DC. but since we are mostly hobbyist, this would fall out of my league, a little to industrial for me since I do not have the space for them and money since they are quite costly. but if you are making a woodworking shop, you should look at those.
next is Metro Wood Veneer Supply which is precisely what the name suggest. they have a good variety of veneers on display and for sale at I would say a reasonable price. Not sure yet if I want to try using those personally, but someday I just might and it is always good to know where I can find them.
a regular in the expo is World Home Depot which sells the hard to find Rhinoply. Good news is that they will be opening shop for those wanting to get them at minimal numbers, bad news is (for me at least) is that it will be in Rosario Pasig. Those interested can call them at 655-2255 for other details.
then there is K-Plast, Inc. that sells architectural plastics. They have Plexiglass in multitude of colors and Lexan. The nice thing is that they seem to cost less than the acrylic we buy... not sure about this better check if you are interested.
Stanley is also represented in the expo by CoBanKiat Hardware along with other tool and materials lines.
I actually had only Two hours to spend on the expo and haven't seen the entirety of the show. Definitely, I will be back on Sunday to see the rest of the exhibits and the LIVE telecast of the Pacquiao/Cotto fight. I do look forward to meeting some of you when you can, pm me a cellphone number and I will make it a point to see and meet you.
Cheers...
P.S. I am not connected with any of the organizer or suppliers in this event. I am merely a spectator who loves tools, learning the new and existing materials and their sources and the new technology it brings.

Re: an insight to the PhilConstruct exhibit 2009

that was a good one, i got to SMX with my wife ng 12:30, by maybe 2pm she surrendered na and head for the mall while i strolled thru the whole convention center a few steps at a time. i believe i finally ended my day at SMX by 5:30pm.

i came in for the tools and saw one supplier that has a shop at Araneta Ave. they carry the brand na JET.

im thinking of buying a table saw and i saw one sa Mayon Hardware, Makita for 36 thou pesos. this Jet brand sell for a nice price of 18thou, now im confused what to buy. i bought this 2nd hand home made band saw and paid 7 thou for it. from the day i bought it i havent made one single decent cut from that band saw. thats 7 thou down the drain. malas ko naman talaga, kaya with the table saw that will be a gift from my wife this christmas i want to get the best money can buy. i dont want her to spend more than what is necessary din naman for a table saw.

feed back naman if any one has had an experience with the JET BRAND vs the Makita brand.
i heard something about the Makita brand na malakas mag vibrate.

any feed back from the people here wil be most appreciated.

Re: an insight to the PhilConstruct exhibit 2009

Bro, JET is a Taiwanese brand. While Japanese (and German) tools are 2nd to none, Taiwan tools are pretty good if you ask me and JET is one of the 1st tier tool makers. JET is one of the more popular Taiwanese tool makers supplying the U.S. market along with Delta, and Grizzly. The question you should really be asking yourself is, as in the specific case of the table saw, if you are willing to pay the premium of 100% higher cost.

This is a case of "diminishing returns". Basically, it means as you get closer to "perfect" you find yourself paying a lot more for each incremental step in improvement.

IMHO, if a tool meets your needs then that is already "perfect" FOR YOU. Of course if you foresee greater needs in the future then maybe investing now could be a good idea.

Bro Timber, thanks for the report. There are several items in there that interest me. Lexan I believe is what is commonly knows as polycarbonate. Lexan is specified for boat windows because it is UV resistant and very strong.

Where there lots of people? I imagine the Pacquiao fight emptied the place just as it emptied the yacht club and the SLEX (good thing).

I haven't tried any of the two saws you mentioned, as far as I can advice the Makita 2704 (previous model sounded very well, but the fence sucks bigtime) ... now, what I would do if I were in your shoes is go to both sites that sells those saws. then give it a whirl, you ould find out what you like, though running them might not tell the faults, the obviuos would be apparent and you would know if a saw has a good motor, balanced one, good top, good fence, well designed ... etc. and from there the choice becomes apparent. of course the prices will mess up your mind again as soon as you decide on one... hahahaha.
goodluck...

thank you thank you, actually yung price naman is not really a problem. sabi nga eh we do pay for what we get, i dont mind paying the extra, almost 100% price differenve, as long as, syempre, yung difference sa performance, set up and the things like that is really worth the 100% difference. last night i tried using my home made Band saw and it sucks big time. cant even get to do a straight line cutting a 1/2 x 2 wood in the middle. parang i ran it for mga 3feet and decided its not worth it. im getting the motor on that band saw and im putting that thing sa likod ng work shop ko. the space will be where il be putting my table saw when i buy it.. hehehehe.. definitely by December. im psych na for the projects that il be doing.

Re: an insight to the PhilConstruct exhibit 2009

will do, not to worry though kasi im not going to chop it up naman. lalagay ko lang sa isang sulok ng work shop ko.

anyways.. was at Tools From US kanina to drop of some Makita demolition hammers that needs repair, i will be using them next week. anyways, i asked my suki if i can get the Makita table saw from him same price as the one from Mayon, para i dont have to drive to soler area.he said OO naman, kaso sama ng feed back sa akin, "sir, nakaka asar lang yang Makita kasi wala man lang sila warranty sa tools nila.(then pointed to a almost new metal box) Yan nga oh. demolition hammer, kasing laki nitong Hitachi na to, 32thou bili ng cliente sa akin, tapos isang buwan pa lang nasunog na, tapos isang lingo na dito ayaw kunin ng Mayon para ma repair kasi wala naman sila warranty.

yaiks.. yan ang nakakatakot when buying supposeworks good brand tools, buti nga naman kung mura lang.

hhaaayyyyssss.. now im confused, i took out 36k this morning to try sana the Makita and if it works good then SOLD.. now nag iisip nanaman ako, baka it will work good sa text then after a short while wala nanaman.

tools are not like the old ones na talaga.

Re: an insight to the PhilConstruct exhibit 2009

Bro I might be interested in buying the bandsaw less the motor. Don't worry I'm pretty good at getting broken tools to work. Any idea what you'd want for it?

Re: an insight to the PhilConstruct exhibit 2009

sure men, il post a pic and il leave it up to you to give me the price for it, il have the 3 pcs of band saw that i bought from soler go with it.one 1 1/2 inch one thinner and another one na 1/2 yata.

when time permits il be checking out the Jet table saw na para i can compare it with the Makita. wish i can bring in a piece of wood that they can rip sa Makita and sa Jet shop so that i'l have an idea regarding the power of the tool.

Did the JET or the Makita table saw have a riving knife (as opposed to just a splitter)?

Judging from the pictures of the Torq 12" table saw TS315 of Elektro Werk ( http://www.toolsfromus.com/ ) posted in their sulit ad for P17,000, it looks like it has a riving knife? Or could it be just a splitter shaped like a riving knife? The ad calls it a 'splitting knife'.
http://sulit.com.ph/1238955

Anyone have feedback on Torq table saws, or any other locally available 220 V table saws with riving knife?

Beyond that, I am wondering whether there is a 240 V version of the Bosch 4100 table saw. Is 4100 a US-only model, or also available in/for Europe?

Bro, JET is a Taiwanese brand. While Japanese (and German) tools are 2nd to none, Taiwan tools are pretty good if you ask me and JET is one of the 1st tier tool makers. JET is one of the more popular Taiwanese tool makers supplying the U.S. market along with Delta, and Grizzly.

Is there an 'official' JET distributor in the Philippines?
I could not find a listing for Philippines in manufacturer's website:

Hans tools EDSA SHANG MALL sells jet power tools but i do not know if they are the distributor nor do i know if they have a complete set

yung table saw ata nila its Jet-JTS10 is i remember the model number correctly.

I am more inclined to wait and save for a dewalt 745 or the bosch table saw (2 forumers have it here) but these will have to be shipped from the US though 🙁

Re: an insight to the PhilConstruct exhibit 2009

Guad,
there is a UK/asian model for the Bosch 4100 and it is the GTS10 though they are not identical. it seems like the asian/uk model is a little behind as it isn't equipted with a riving knife yet.
the Jet and Makita tablesaws do not have a true riving knife, though others would contest this, it only has a splitter. the torq has the same....
