It is used for the end connection of small diameter tube pipes ( i.e steel or copper ) such as those found in vehicle brake and AC lines.

Till the day I got hold and tried these ....

Switzerland Made PB Swiss Punch and Chisels .... each one has it's own serial number so the manufacturer can track down everything about the production of the tool up to the source of raw material.

and so is Mayhew.

Craftsman does not manufacture tools. Their punch and chisels are made by Mayhew in the USA.

Now I need only get hold of some Starrett to find out how they stand up against the posted punch and chisel sets.

Question, do you sharpen punches? I got pointy ones for starting holes in metal- or at least that's what i think it's for. It's getting a little blunt tho. (It's true, once you've made a small impression, the drill bit will never go anywhere =).)

Sometimes on stuff that needs a bit of persuasion to get off ..... like stuck up rounded bolts etc.....

Yeah I sharpen these all the time when it gets dull.

Yes if you have the 118 deg drill bits ( need the punch ) . For the 135 deg split points walking is minimized even without the punch hole. ( Metal )

DP I sometimes don't punch anymore. I use center bit first then the drill bit. ( Metal )

My old favorite strap wrench. I use it for oil filters, stainless pipes etc.. and for opening stuck jar lids ... LOL

I'm not sure if available locally. It's the strap that is special on this tool. Non marring and sticks well to polished surfaces. Available ones I saw here are the chain types.

If you need urgently then PM me. I don't use this tool often and can part with it as I can always get another one.

Thanks for the offer Sir. A nice to have item but I'm not really in a hurry. I will look for a cheaper alternative first then if all else fail then I shall get in touch with you. 🙂

went to handyman yesterday and the available brands are lotus and greenfield only. the salesboy told me with confidence that the greenfield is "made in USA" but i smelled a rat....
