Moji was suppose to review this because he has a bigger bathroom re tiling job. However I used mine today for a small task so here goes.
I need to move the toilet bowl hole forward ....

Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
@v
i saw a demo video showing tile removal. no grinding was needed, the chisel was applied to the grout at 45° and the tile just popped off. amazing, really.

Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
in that case it is cool! one tool for the whole job!
the photo looks like its been etched by a diamond disc eh.
cool!

Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
@v
nice no? plus it can drill pipe-sized holes in concrete.

You are right V. I think even for tile removal ... etching by diamond disc will be better whenever possible.

Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
I tried removing tiles last sunday, the tile didnt pop off like that of the video. I had to dig deeper behind the tile to remove it and it broke off in pieces. I am thinking its either the tile removal in the video was scripted in a sense or that the tile adhesion process is different here. Here its common practice not to use a notched trowel while abroad its widely used.
Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
What's a notched trowel?

Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
here's a video of the tile chisel mounted on a demo hammer. the dramatic results may be due to the power - most rotary hammers have around 3 newtons of impact, while a 3kg demo hammer has around 8-10
actually, my problem with the demo hammer is fear of cracking the slab beneath, hence my interest in a less powerful unit

Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
i am referring to the pic that jay posted...see the straight scoring cuts that could only be made by some diamond disc..i am sure it cant be done and as as clean as that using only a demolition hammer even with the use of the sds chiseling bit...and besides, you mentioned that the video was showing tiles being yanked out of the concrete at the grouted ends.
@jay,
yun yung pampalitada na me saw tooth like edges...but bigger teeth!
this notched trowel is intended specifically for tile laying...this trowel produces an even voids of tile adhesive/cement...and economical to use.

Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
@v
i'm not sure i understand: why do you need to score for tile removal if you the hammer knocks the tile out from the grouted ends anyway? or is the scoring needed for the new tile to adhere properly?
i observed how they remove tile on a number of occasions, much of the work was with hammer and chisel or 'tikyik'. it's slow, hard work.

Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
In repairing and replacing a damaged tile you need to scour first the grouted portion using a grinder with a diamond cutting disk. Direct chiseling using power tools or manual chipping will cause damaging the other tiles. Manual chipping is also needed to trim the sides before you lay the new tile.
If your going to removed & replaced all the tiles no need to scour it.
Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
@bryant
ok, i get it. it's just like the way we partially demolish concrete then- grind the borders prior to chiseling.

Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
the way i understand Jay's post is for him to move the bowl a bit forward..there was no plan to retile.
so what he did was score the intended line of cut with a diamond disc followed by the hammer with the chisel.
if indeed the chisel hammer can yank out the tile almost completely at the grout ends then two things i can conclude:
1. it was not tile adhesive
2. me ampaw sa ilalim!
hehe
@jay,
eh bakit nga ba dalawa yang demolition hammer mo? are you into some stealth quickie construction job? hehe

Re: Bosch 3-28 Hammer Drill Chisel
Saakin yung isang rotaryhammer doc..sabay kami ni jay bumili nun eh.
That video is really the ideal way with tile just popping off whole but i doubt that is a common occurrence. I just removed a small area of tile yesterday and i got no whole tile. It was also not as easy as the video made it seem, may one handed action pa siya hehe.
