Re: buying a 2nd hand welding machine

Between the 2 brands you mentioned I'd go Yamato.

If you could swing the initial budget up then look for 2nd hand DC Welder (inverter type) in the 200A range. Lightweight as in very portable, can use normal household outlets and strikes a better arc. Low power consumption too.

Is this for commercial use?

Re: buying a 2nd hand welding machine

no sir, di2 lng sa bahay, gagawa sana ako ng dog cage and canopy ng garahe ko.
whats the difference between ARC welding machine and DC welding machine.
ung creston handy cya and copper ung internals at 200 amps, ung yamato bulky ang kaha and aluminum ung internals at 200 amps, pero quite apprehensive ako bumili ng dalawa ksi 2nd hand baka may issues. both owners of the item tinanong ko sila kung nasa kanila pa ba ung recibo from the store kun saan nila na bili, para sana for the warranty sabi nila na misplace daw. thats why ano2x po ang dapat kong e check bago bilhin ung item, willing naman sila pa silip ung loob. but I dont know what to check inside.
budget ko nasa 4k

Re: buying a 2nd hand welding machine

Hi there again mchammer,

I've just finished posting answers on your roofing inquiry and am here now replying on your question.

First of all before you buy a second hand welder, be sure first that you know its source, meaning is the person selling the machine reliable and trustworthy, mapag kakatiwalaan mo ba sya sa mga sasabihin o ieexplain sa iyo about the welder na bibilhin mo. Is he sincere enough to tell you the possible defect or defects of the welder.

Secondly, are you willing to settle for a second hand welder that may have been refurbised or repaired, that will be your choice now. May I suggest that you do check hardwares and DIY stores and look at their displayed welders, check their amperage and compare prices if it reaches your price range or a little bit higher. Oh before I go on also check the internet, particularly sulit.com, I saw recently direct importers of YAMATO welding machines being sold cheaper than the hardware prices, kung baga ay wala pang middleman na dinadaanan, check it out if you can. Now to continue, If I were you I'LL get a welder with 200 amps and above, lower amperes will just be good for spot-spot lang and you have to rest the machine if you try using it continuosly, baka madali pang masunog ang makina. 😡

In one hardware store near our place I saw a portable welder, brand new and my suki seller was offering it for 4,300K, ITS A 275 amps KAWASAKI brand, only its an AC welder but that is fair enough for a beginner. I also saw one at a DIY store at 250 amps portable welder, price is 4,900K, brand is ARMADA. They also have there Daiken, Daichi, and Yamato brands.

If you can look at my other thread on building skills, you'll see there my first welder and how I learned to weld with that machine, it may be locally made but it has served me well up to now, though I have purchased a 300 amps welder for heavy duty and continues welding.

By the way, AC welders usually sold in the market uses ALTERNATE CURRENT, and the DC welders are welders that uses DIRECT CURRENT that produces good weld beads and less splatters when welding. DC welders are more expensive than the AC welders.

BRO, forget about the receipts and buy a new welder, sure ka pa walang sakit ng ulo sa unit.:D

Hope this reply helps. 😀

mchammer, please try to complete you words. hindi po ito cellphone and you do not need to save on letters. please avoid it at all times... besides, most of the words you posted only needs one more letter.

also if you can, post in English so our foreign members can relate better, but this is not required...

Re: buying a 2nd hand welding machine

SORRY SIR TIMBS if some of my replies were with some tagalog or filipino words or phrases, nakikibagay lang po sa nag tatanong.

Anyway I do understand your concern here because lately I've seen also some of the topics or thread that I have opened can be found in GOOGLE search, so it got me thinking also of letting go of using our local dialect since other foreign readers might not understand filipino words or phrases so much so with our foreign members.

Try my best to completely reply in english.

tagalog is fine since this IS PINOYhandyman anyway. it really isn't a requirement, but since we are sharing our thoughts. it would be better if we can share them beyond our borders. Hence English is the prefered language but NOT a requirement. so no apology nec. Rosy...:smoke::smoke::smoke:

Re: buying a 2nd hand welding machine

well said sir, my please accept my apology.

By the way I was intrigued by the arc welding machine coz for a 200amp copper internal welding m. he's just selling it for 4k, the cover looks good but just don't know the condition inside.

he gave me permission to open the cover. That is why I was asking if what details should I check inside like wear and tear, maybe i should smell the internals too if there is a sign of burn, gonna check it out tomorrow if the weather permits me.

As a seller he will tell all the good stuff to sell his equipment.
As a buyer I must protect my hard earned money.
caveat emptor

By the way does the copper melt or break if prolonged straight or steady weld is applied correct me if I'm wrong a 200amp w.m. can be used only for a spot weld and not for a prolonged straight or steady weld for lets say 3min.
and can the welding machine still perform its duties even there is a tear or breakage in the copper wire?
thnx..

Re: buying a 2nd hand welding machine

Google welder Duty Cycle and read about it. It will give you more idea on a welders capabilities in terms of time usage.

200A is a good setup. Can do a lot already, probably weld up to 1/2" thick on a single pass. At least my 200A Powercraft can.

Copper is better.

One thing to consider too is the welder's amperage adjustment design. Are these preset or can be set at any given setting within the tool's range i.e 0 ~ 200A.
