I always thought carborandum was a common noun for honing stones in our native tongue.
now i found out it was a brand... a pretty good one at that
i have tried sharpening my two buck knives using the usual honing stones. i never got the same result from carborandum... Wait lang parang endorsement labas neto ah.
basically 5 strokes per coarse side and smooth side per blade edge did it... the stone is really rough on the rough part. the smooth side isnt as smooth as the others. I would actually go the extra mile of using another stone to do final honing. But the sharpeness it achieves was pretty good and quick.
I ended up deburring the blade with a metal papaer clip. 🙂
one thing to look for is that the stone i got had two bumps along it. so i guess just pick and choose.
I suspect it had a load full of silica content as compared to most stones.
i remember my dad's helpers asking me for carborandum when i was still single... i was like.. Huh? what that ?
oh i got it at Wilcon depot along libis. the larger wilcon. not sure if the smaller one has
