Guys,

Any idea on a good chop saw? I know Dewalt and Bosch have one in the 5-6K range. Makita probably more in the 8K range. Don't know which is better the Dewalt or Bosch.

This is one of the things I want to do with it.

Thanks

Re: Chop Saw

I bought a LG chop saw many many years ago. I bought it when I decided to build my workshop, all the posts and beams are rebar space frames so it really saw a lot of use. I also built a space frame boat trailer with it, as well as more projects than I can remember. I'd still be using it today despite having a GMC chop saw too if I could only remember who I lent it to :(.

Bro, am important features to compare is the clamping system.

Re: Chop Saw

Thanks for your replies.

Any particular feature to look at in the fence and clamping system. Can these do angle cuts? I am planning to go check this out on Monday. Would be willing to pay a bit more also for a better tool.

Re: Chop Saw

I guess the biggest shortcoming I've found in my chopsaws is that it rather difficult to adjust the angle of the fence. Another though it is not really a big problem but more of an inconvenience is the clamp release mechanism. My LG had a flip release split nut. The GMC has a rotate-to-open type which sometimes sticks.

Re: Chop Saw

I decided to give the new model Bosch chop saw a try - GCO 2000 Professional. I paid 6.7K for it. The Dewalt was 5.7k while the Makita was 7.6K.

I'm going to get this blade for this tool.

Re: Chop Saw

JayL, did you ever get that metal cutting blade above?

Is chop a.k.a. cutoff saw the right tool to cut 2 x 4" metal C channels with thickness of 3-6 mm? I may have to get one. So -- Bosch GCO 2000 or equivalent Makita, can't go wrong with either? but the Bosch is cheaper? Looks like there's a new Bosch out, GCO 2400 J.

What kind of 14" disc to get, or is there just one kind/thickness?

I was thinking of getting an Evolution sliding miter saw for not much more but waited too long.

I had second thoughts so I did not order the blade. Too much mixed opinions on this from the other sites I went for research. Issue is the high speed RPM of an abrasive chop saw.

That said I decided to save up the money and keep it for a Makita Dry Cut Saw when additional budget permits.

I believe it's around 22.5K locally.

For abrasive 14" cutting disks I'm both happy with the Bosch and the Makita.

Re: Chop Saw

In case anyone is in the market for a cut-off saw, I just bought a Makita 2414nb from Kohler Sales along T. Alonzo for P7,400.

LYS has a similar looking model, Makita M200, on sale for P6,500. Not sure what the difference between the two are.

DiY has the DeWalt on sale for P8,415 till end of the month.

I am inclined to buy this.....

It is a lil more expensive than the GCO 2000 but it's gonna work like a horse so every bit of extra power counts. The LC1230 set me back by 23.7K and the extra blade another 5.4k so I hope Golden has a very good dealer offer 'coz my wallet, in the words of our good friend bigfoot2, has been shot dead. :chop::pope: :ill:

Re: Chop Saw

Looks like the price of the Makita LC1230 increased already. I got mine for 22,500 pesos at Best Achievers in T. Alonzo.

Bro Willy ... did you get the Sugiyama or Makita blade? I believe Mayon has both of these on stock.

I ordered the Makita blade. It's very rare to find other Metal blades especially @ 25.4mm arbor unless you have regular access to international sources. I think Makita has 2 Metal cutting Carbide blades in their line. One is for mild steel and a special TCT for much higher grade of cutting. I just don't know what blade will arrive but was assured they are designed for my square and angular frames. Which blade series did your saw come with originally, B-09765 or B-09793?

Re: Chop Saw

The saw came from Mayon loaded with a Japanese Sugiyama blade. I returned the blade and opted for a Makita A-87242. It's a very good blade but Freud is better for the 2mm thick square tubes that I usually cut.
