Creston Spray Gun (Any Good?)

I'm planning to buy a spray gun which matches my small compressor (115 PSI, 40L, 2.5 HP, Free Air Displacement 145 L/Min or 5 CFM).

I saw one which is marked as Low Volume Low Pressure (LVLP), Ampro brand:

Operating pressure: 15 – 45 PSI
Air Consumption: 3.0 – 3.9 CFM

This is sold at Costco. My wife's heading US so I am thinking of asking her to buy it (79 USD) - price is in lower bracket when compared to other branded LVLP or HLVP.

I saw Creston Spray Gun, model 955-G at Ace Hardware, spec'ed at 75L/Min or 2.6 CFM, 3 kg/cm2 or 45 PSI. So it is technically the same specs as the Ampro.

The Creston tech manual or box do not say it's an LVLP, but surely spec'ed as one. All of the spray guns I checked out sold locally from corner paint shops, Ace Hardware (Eagle brand), True Value (Lotus, Buffalo, etc) do not have LVLP or HVLP model.

Anybody who have used LVLP/HVLP? Is this not commonly used? Anybody who have used Creston 955-G spray gun?

Feedback please. Thanks.

Re: Creston Spray Gun (Any Good?)

Try to check this site www.autobodystore .com. This is where I got the info I needed when I bought my second spray gun. I ended up buying a Sharpe Finnex 3000 w/ 1.4mm Tip.

Metabo Power Tools
Norseman Drill Cutting Tools

Re: Creston Spray Gun (Any Good?)

JayL,

Thanks for your response.

The Sharpe FX3000 won't work for my compressor. As mentioned, my compressor is spec'ed at 5 CFM while FX3000 requires 9.5 CFM.

I have gone through over the net pertaining to LVLP/HVLP. Now, I am seeking local standard and the Creston brand.

Thanks.

Re: Creston Spray Gun (Any Good?)

I bought my first gun at Binondo for 1,250 pesos. If I am not mistaken I think it might just be an Iwata clone. Stamped on it was model W-71 and it came with 1.5mm tip. The gun was happy with my Vespa 1 Hp compressor. I used it to spray metal and wood cabinets and was satisfied with the results. However I find it lacking in capabilities for automotive use.

I have seen the Creston you mentioned and if you decide to try one then please give feedbacks. Currently I am searching a gun for primer use with at least 1.8mm Tip. I am hesitant to try the Creston only because I could not get any feedbacks from other users.

For 80 dollars I'm sure you will get a much much better gun if you decide to buy it from the US.

Re: Creston Spray Gun (Any Good?)

Im bumping this one year old thread. 😉

Im actually having the same concern with jacorb.
I would like to know how these LVLP spray is doing with garage type 5CFM compressors.
Im not looking to paint a whole car but will this be enough to paint fairings of a bigbike?

Re: Creston Spray Gun (Any Good?)

Hi guys,
just a feedback on the Creston Spray Gun model 955-G, i've been using this for almost 4 years (even until now) painting metal and wooden cabinets with my 1/4HP VESPA compressor and it works great. So far no issues encountered as long as you do proper cleannig after using. I think this a LVLP type of spray gun. .

Re: Creston Spray Gun (Any Good?)

Thanks for the reviews. I bought a Creston 955H for 750 at Han's Tools. I haven't used it yet, but good value for money based on the reviews here.
