Re: Cutting an Al box profile

"Al" refers to Aluminum as you can see from any Periodic Table.

So, an 'Al box profile' is an Aluminum box profile which is a standard (extruded) Aluminum product that is used to make Eg. door jambs of Aluminum doors and such.

Thanks

Some time in the mid-80s, I bought these aluminum channels (for door jamb use) in T.Alonzo St., in Binondo, the store gladly cut it for me squarely, using a metal Cut-Off machine without additional payment. I used them to make several lamp holders for my aquariums then. I finely cut to size further at home using ordinary hack saw and filed it down to near perfection (patiently).

I still believe larger suppliers of aluminum construction materials have these mach available and won't charge you extra for items you buy from them.

Just need a little elbow grease if you're not mass producing.
Cut slowly and do make sure you have drip oil on the cut and USE SAFETY GLASSES!!!.
Most if not all miter saws have fixed speed...soft start maybe...

it is even advised to cut the material when the machine has reached its full speed.

btw, we want to see the finished product after all...

be it done by a hacksaw, cut off machine or a mitre saw.

The devil will find work for idle hands to do.-Morrissey

Re: Cutting an Al box profile

By slowly I mean stroke speed even in industrial machines only CNCs have rpm speed control. Blade thickness ranges from 3.2mm to 4mm. But as I said kahit na anong TCT saw blade dyan. I use my table saw to both rip and dock Alu pero ung lumang sawblade ang kinakabit ko plus mabagal ang feed. I suggest on an offcut mark a mitre line, cut and check if true then adjust accordingly. DIY chop saws are notoriously out of square. Hth.
