anyone here has or have heard of the drill doctor drill bit sharpener? --> http://www.drilldoctor.com/store/

i have read good reviews on this product but it's a little pricey and i'm wondering if it's worth buying. the simplest model, 350x, sells for US$49.95 (plus around 7% tax) at home depot (US). that makes it around Php2500.

how much does a drill bit cost nowadays? i figure it will pay for itself after a few years of using.

any feedback would be much appreciated 🙂

thanks in advance!

Re: drill doctor - drill bit sharpener

The industrial supply beside Meralco near the Cainta Junction sells a Drill Doctor as well as the drill sharpening jig that I eventually bought. At the time I bought the jig I already had the necessary bench grinder so my investment was limited to the jig. Still it would probably be better if you just bought a small benchtop grinder AND the jig to sharpen drill bits. The two will probably cost the same but even at little more, the investment is still worth it IMHO.

Actually, I already mentioned the jig on another thread here, and someone asked if an angle grinder could be used instead of a benchtop grinder. I don't see why not. You just need to DIY a solid mount for the angle grinder that has to be held steady and "squala" to a table top. Be careful though if you do, angle grinders spin a lot faster than a benchtop grinder.

Oh and yes, I absolutely agree that a drill sharpening setup would easily pay for itself. Mine paid for itself a few days after I got it home when I finished sharpening my small pile of dulled or broken bits. Good thing I'm a junk junky. Now the jig is "earning" me money.

Re: drill doctor - drill bit sharpener

i bought a 4mm drill bit for Php65 last time. i figured if you factor in the Php2500 cost of the 350X Drill Doctor you can recover the cost in around 42 sharpenings, maybe even less if you sharpen bigger diameter bits. so, it pays for itself in the 43rd sharpening more or less. not to mention the time and effort you save in going to the hardware when you need one good bit.

they say, the replaceable grinding wheel of the Drill Doctor last for 200 sharpenings. a replacement cost US$19.95, good for another 200 sharpenings, more or less.

Hi again Gregg. I'm really wondering how I missed your posts.

The jig I heard is now P480. Picture ... hmmm ... there should be one here somewhere. Check the other topics under this category.

You'll need a bench grinder ideally though an grinding/sanding tool that you can "clamp" down will do.
