Gd day PHM...
I need a 20ton H-type hydraulic press to complement my hobby (car maintenance) but instead of buying a ready-made one, I am planning to buy a drill press instead and assemble it on my own.
with such objective in mind, what drill press do i need to buy, is ryobi brand dependable and what model/specs do I need to look for?
with regard to the hydraulic press, has anyone tried to DIY it before? what H-bar thickness will be more advisable for a 20ton design? Conversely, would it be better if I scrap the idea and just buy a new one?
your expert opinion/suggestions will be highly appreciated. TIA
Re: drill press & hydraulic press
Bro phezthie,
If you have enough spare time for the project, then go for it and fabricate one, there is nothing more satisfying in being able to finish a project and seeing it work and knowing you did it yourself. For the frames of your hydraulic press, you can use I-Beams or C-Channels for heavy duty applications but for light to medium use, you can opt for square or rectangular tubings or maybe GI pipes.
For a drill press, might as well buy a new one, there are good brands available in the market like Powercraft, Johnsons, Craftsman or Hitachi, etc. You can also search sa sulit and compare prices which will fall under your budget. I am sure you'll be able to choose one. 😉
Here is a link of Hydraulic press just to give you and idea of its constructions and materials used :

Re: drill press & hydraulic press
many thanks sir rosy for your very quick reply ...
Actually I've been planning this project for quite sometime, about 2 years already... what keeps me from starting it is the drill press though i have hand drills and saw to begin with. Ive searched sulit but ryobi brand was the most available for a cheaper price..But to be candid, i am not too familiar with the specs and features of drill press, the reason why i deferred buying one.
I already have the appropriate brochure showing the dimensions to be used in the fabrication of hydaulic press but the thickness of the frame was not given. i would only presume that its standard in the size of bar i will be using.
Again, many thanks sir..
Re: drill press & hydraulic press
per research i've made and after seeing sir bugel's DP thread, i am convinced that its better if I get a powercraft ..
any idea of its present price mga surs? recommended seller/shop by PHM?
Re: drill press & hydraulic press
Hi pheztie..may pic pala ko ng shop made hydraulic press without jack in the photo..it is made out of dump truck tire rim.rear leaf spring yung main leaf..madre ang tawag dito samin saka chassis ng truck..ginagamit to pang tangal ng torque rod bushing,I beam king pin ng 10 wheeler truck etc.

Re: drill press & hydraulic press
a crafty one, indeed. thanks sa idea sir bugel...
BTW how's the performance of your DP, any thoughts you could share? :thanks:
Re: drill press & hydraulic press
So far maganda syang gamitin, well built, tahimik vibration is very minimal though may konting run out yung chuck pag smaller bit na ang ginagamit ko pero pag malaking bit okay naman..pag nakabili ka once in a month pahiran mo ng wax ang post at table medyo madaling kalawangin kasi..siguro dahil hindi fully enclosed yung shop ko.

Re: drill press & hydraulic press
you're a great help sir bugel... many thanks
Re: drill press & hydraulic press
@ sir bugel
I was informed by bro coolmax that you have tried daichi drill press before deciding to buy powercraft...
what made you go for the power craft instead of dachi? TIA
Re: drill press & hydraulic press
build quality bro..the difference between daichi and powercraft dril press is night and day.
trust me on this..tatlong drill press na nabili ko pero sa powercraft lang ako na satisfy:p
Re: drill press & hydraulic press
then powercraft it is..
tnx mate
Re: drill press & hydraulic press
No doubt, powercraft is a good one. You can also try johnson, important lang is yung availability ng spare part, like nung nabali yung yung spindle because of heavy use, pinalitan lang ok na ulit, buti na lang kompleto yung piyesa kay hans.
Re: drill press & hydraulic press
are you referring to johnson electric sir? like powercraft, is it made from china?
