decided to post here since there are bandsaws for both wood and metal purposes...
And since I went on and ordered mine, I believe its a good time to start a thread dedicated for it.
how to choose the correct bandsaw blade
I got a Rikon 10-325 while some already have a Grrizzly and Powermatic and Torq... Sana bandsaw owners chime in too....
I am getting one for resaw purposes...

Re: Everything Bandsaw
Ok. Ignorant question: what does resaw mean? What other bandsw terminologies are used?
Re: Everything Bandsaw
It's basically a band saw optimized for cutting timber along the grain to reduce larger sections into smaller sections or veneers.

Ahhh...tistis!
Re: Everything Bandsaw
I can see a bandsaw in my distant future. But, in case I win the lotto tomorrow. Which bandsaw should I get? What would you recommend? (And I will still be a cheapskate even after a lotto win)
Re: Everything Bandsaw
Same thing with me sir ding, I've been wanting to have a good bandsaw in the near future maybe for metal or wood use. Well probably with metal cutting blades, it will be great for cutting ms thick plates and kerf cut will be very thin and clean with no more grinding to follow.
Haaaayyy(sigh) sana manalo naman ako sa lotto, problem is I don't bet sa lotto, medyo kuripot din ako e. he he he he

If you do win the lotto, get the bigger bandsaw, an 18" would be nicer and the footprint isn't so much more, plus it should have more power to cut thru harder wood.
but, if you prefer 14" models, the Rikon with the fixed cutting height of 13" is best for resawing against another brand with a riser block (which others find to be tricky to tweak). pero if intended for curve cutting lang, a Grizzly GO555X would do fine (mas mura kasi and it has good reviews too).

Re: Everything Bandsaw
^Looking forward to the day i can participate in this thread, and contributing something worthwhile =/.
Should have had sliced a lot of wood since half a year ago, but i decided to deal with the enemy once and for all: RUST. It's superficial, and turns out, wouldn't even be structurally damaging 10 or 15 years down the line but i didn't like the way it looked.
Patient has been under chemo for some months now with electrolysis and rust converter... a new paint job in the next few weeks and i would have conquered the issue =).

Re: Everything Bandsaw
thanks Guad, I did try to find a thread that would fit before making this one...
Owyn, maybe you can start by posting some of the tweaks and concern you come across rejuvinating and mmaybe using your bs. btw, your blades are still waiting for you. I can ship them if you want so you can use them na.

^Sige, but i think we got a couple of guys here who have BS's and used them for months now. They must be more well versed in the pleasures and limitations of their respective machines than me on mine.
Ok... ...well... regarding the crowning of bandsaw tires. Andali lang pala. But i got lucky in that 1. the bore in both wheels are same-sized on my model, and 2. I can easily clamp the shaft assembly to my DP. Just a quick and dirty (but rigid) jigging, achieves close to perfect concentricity. (The needle does move in one area prolly indicating the small depression left by the splice.)

Vid taken 3 weeks ago, I had to scrap that tire btw! (Sayang ganda pa naman quality nung rubber.) Starved glue joints in some spots, i've redone it, and i've finally got good results after changing my approach. Will be crowning again by tomorrow. (The rubber i used next tho already has some cracks, bought it in gandara. I might recrown a few years down the road.)

Re: Everything Bandsaw
assembly I must say is a pain. ang bibigat ng parts, even the base must weigh 10 kilos also.
you want to know how it runs?

Re: Everything Bandsaw
Ang tikas ng tindig Timb. Hindi naman pala gaano kalakihan yung box. Just probably a bit smaller than a 60 Gal compressor but the problem with an air compressor is it is in a crate.
Congrats bro. I'm sure this will be a powerful tool in your arsenal. Probably the most expensive for now?
