Re: Everything Bandsaw

Wow! ayan na!

akala ko din mas malaki yung box..have you tried resawing yet?

I have, was actually dissapointed. but the blade wasn't designed for it. in fact the blade is unusual. 5/8" with a 6tpi. alanganin for curves and not good for resaw.
the bandsaw runs great, 110V then we rewired it to run 230V...

Re: Everything Bandsaw

Are you gonna put it in a mobile base or you have a nice spot for it in your workshop? Your tailed apprentice sure is eager to saw wood ;).

Chisel came over to inspect the bandsaw... he liked it kasi solid ang build and the resaw capacity is 13"... but my blades hasn't arrived yet so we just have to wait for them.
your blades on the otherhand is waiting for you:kill:

Re: Everything Bandsaw

When i said tailed (i.e. electric cord) apprentice i meant the saw! So, what blades did you get for it, bimetal diemasters din? Cge, i'll get the blades from you this month =).

Moj, we're being left behind you and I... in terms of work output, workbench, nvm the tools. Am really addicted to SSFIV (arcade) right now ^_^! But that's no excuse... flipside of that is Timb, thanks for always being a motivator to our fledging community.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

Timber, do you have a mobile base for your Rikon?

When mine arrives, I'll probably need to move it around as my shop is tight. Would appreciate some ideas/suggestions. I assume it's really heavy so I'd be wary building a wooden base myself.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

I saw a review on lumberjocks with pictures of caster retrofit for Rikon ... needed blocks of wood. Doesn't RIkon have leveling feet?

For Grizzly, I just replaced the leveling feet/bolts with threaded casters of the same thread size (M12), 3" polyurethane, 220 lb/caster capacity. Quick solution to get up and moving ... and allowed mobile base and Grand Unified Strategy for worktable heights to be deferred.

Best time to add casters is before you mount the saw on its base!

Re: Everything Bandsaw

REading the manual, doesn't look like Rikon has levelling feet. It also has this warning:

WARNING: To ensure sufficient upright stability
and safety of this Bandsaw, you need to bolt
the Bandsaw to the floor with M10 screws (not
supplied).

I could ignore the warning and use the M10 screwholes to attach casters. BUt the warning kinda gets to me. Last thing I want is the Rikon toppling over. I will probably have to decide where it stays in my shop and bolt it there. Then, figure out some sort of a dolly/sled if I have to move it.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

@ balarila,

Sir ding maybe you could have a wider base made of wood with locking caster wheels or pa fabricate mo sa welding shop metal base made of 2" X 2" X 1/4" angle bars or some tubulars again with good sturdy locking caster wheels, to carry the full weight of the bandsaw.

Maybe you could ask some of the metal workers ( bakal boys ) here to help you out in fabricating the metal base.

Tito Ding,

Not that I have one but I have used timber's bandsaw and I could say it's pretty stable for normal use. The only time I think it would need to be bolted on is when we tried to resaw (if I'm not mistaken) a 9 foot board.

During the resaw, the tool is stable enough with the added casters protruted around 2-3 inches to give more stability on the infeed and outfeed position. This gives more stability since we know that the saw's base is rectangular and parallel to the operator. The added protrusion gives the base a more squarish profile that would add stability.

But the best thing of having casters than bolting it on the floor is the mobility of the heavy tool for better cutting position and storage.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

hahaha, it took three of us to resaw a 10 foot long 11" wide board cut in half.

Like Jarod mentioned, I have added wooden pieces and extended 2" in front and back and installed small wheels (ones I had available) which came out very stable. the base has a recess below which I gave solid wood to level it to the board that mounts the wheels. will try to take pictures later.

So far, it is very stable and hindi naman nagti-tip over.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

Very encouraging, guys. Will certainly plan on it.

Nice to know you sliced some 10ft long boards. I have a dozen 2x10x8 mahogany planks awaiting some slicing!
