Re: Everything Bandsaw

the bearing upgrade should be a nice feature going to tool less, the motor, I was able to bog it down cutting 11" mahogany that had internal stresses.
I thought for a while we were loosing on the features, seems the price also increased and upgrades can be done by just adding the parts. whew....

Re: Everything Bandsaw

there is an updated 14" rikon bs at the 2011 AFWS...i believe its the model 350

among the mods were:
-led lights
-wider table

with those mods..i dont think it would be the best bang for the buck...choice of 2 motors..a 2.5HP made overseas (US1.5K) and a 3HP baldor...(add US300)

lets hail the 325...

its ok if the grizzly G0555x placed second.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

Wohooo!

This arrived today.

But these few weeks are probably the busiest of the year for me, workwise. Probably won't be able to open the box until weekend. And may not even have enough time to play with it. :boom1:

Re: Everything Bandsaw

congrats Ding, it is a very nice tool to have in the shop especially if you use solid wood most of the time. One tip while assembly, seal the bottom stand before mounting the BS. That way dust will not enter the bottom cabinet.

Excellent suggestion. I also plan to get some casters and wood later to make a rolling base.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

Come to think of it, I have no idea where to get casters. Any recommendations? Would those big, tough-looking casters at Wilcon do? My sked is soooo tight this week I'd probably just have enough time to drop by Wilcon or those mall hardwares (Ace, Handymans...) in QC or Marikina.

In that case, I would say one of the larger Ace deserves a visit.

As lamented in the below thread, Ace seems to be the only store with half a brain when it comes to selling casters, i.e., specs (material/size/capacity) clearly labelled, display logically organized.
All about Casters

But half a brain only because specs are shown only for one brand (Creston: 35, 40, 50, 65, 75, 80, 100 kg) not the others.

You will have to consider how much height increase you want or can tolerate, how much to believe the capacities (i.e., how much margin to allow), and whether to have two casters non-swiveling. IIRC, the fixed casters are not locking; may or may not be a good tradeoff.

I used all Steelex D2614 (220 lb, double locking) because I needed threaded, and seemed to be well-reviewed among bandsaw users.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

Thanks, Guad. That thread was indeed useful. Hope against hope, I tried the Ace at SM Masinag. They had only some Broncos rated at 60kg. Too lightweight. I guess I'll have to search some more or call up the one at San Juan.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

I too am in the market for casters. I had checked Panda and they do have some quality casters which I believe they market for industrial clients as well.

I got a price list from them and can scan and email this to members interested. I'm sure Edward at Panda won't mind.

Just let me know.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

@ balarila,

sir ding if you have time to pass by Robinsons Big R beside Sta Lucia, check out Handyman, I happen to see some real REAL heavy duty wheel casters and it costs IIRC about 1.5K+ or more for each piece. I was there last month also looking for a real heave duty wheel casters for my welding table, and its really a heavy duty caster for industrial application. See if it will meet what you are looking for for your bandsaw stand.
