Re: Everything Bandsaw

@ balarila,

sir ding if you have time to pass by Robinsons Big R beside Sta Lucia, check out Handyman, I happen to see some real REAL heavy duty wheel casters and it costs IIRC about 1.5K+ or more for each piece. I was there last month also looking for a real heave duty wheel casters for my welding table, and its really a heavy duty caster for industrial application. See if it will meet what you are looking for for your bandsaw stand.

Thanks, Rosy. It probably will. But P1.5k apiece! That'll be P6k for the whole lot. Still, will give it a look-see. Salamat!

Re: Everything Bandsaw

I got a price list from them and can scan and email this to members interested. I'm sure Edward at Panda won't mind.

I'd appreciate if you can send me a scanned copy of the price list. Thanks.

Please PM me an email address where I can send you the pdf file.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

like everybody else would say, the bandsaw is also dust machine!
here is where the dust will collect...

inside the lower wheel cabinet...

on the cover of the lower blade cabinet...

on the switch...

on this belt tightening lever

Re: Everything Bandsaw

outside the cabinet...

and of course, on the table itself and on the floor!

the Rikon 10-325 has a 4" dust port exiting at the back of the lower wheel cabinet but for some design flaws, the port is 80% covered buy a sheet metal (it is to beef the motor spindle assembly)...I would say that the lower wheel cabinet is where almost 70% of the dust collects, but I also believe that the source of all the dust is right underneath the plastic blade insert....

in one forum, one guy made use of some 3" PVC pipes, sliced it to accommodate the blade, slightly widen this hole a bit and the dust capture is near 90%...but his bandsaws under the table clearance is wide enough to allow the 3" pipe..and this is not the case with the Rikon 10-325...

here is the finish product to my mod...
instead of placing a pipe underneath the table, I made use of some scrap plexiglass, made a funnel like contraption so that the dust coming out will be directed to an opening leading to the lower wheel cabinet.(the blue tape served its purpose well for this temporary mod btw.)

Re: Everything Bandsaw

and then I made a hole on the metal support (this is 1/8" thick metal) near the lower wheel cabinet...

to allow this smaller 2" dust port...

and then I snaked in a 1 1/2" flexible hose and fitted with a small funnel like dust collection port I bought at some surplus shop...

Re: Everything Bandsaw

the small dust port at the end of the hose is 3mm near the bandsaw blade...I had cut more of the plastic...I wish the clearance is just 2mm but anyway, I am extremely happy with the results when I hooked the machine to my vacuum cleaner!

Re: Everything Bandsaw

Congrats, Doc!

I don't think I'll ever have the courage to do what you just did.

BTW, yesterday, I broke my bandsaw's belt so I'll order some for spares, if anyone here wants to ride on my order, feel free to email/PM me. Will probably get some spare table inserts and tires, too.

Hey V,

Wish you can take some time off to file those left over sharp edge points on the metal hole you made. I find it very dangerous in the long run specially when it gets some rust on all of those sharp points. Yeah those rusts might also start creeping on the metal and might start to ruining your nice band saw.

Well bro just being concern here of your safety and well being.

Re: Everything Bandsaw

hi rosy bro!

there is a hose that entered that hole with serrated edges...in the absence of a die grinder, I just caulked every exposed metal with silicone to prevent oxidation and rust formation.
..I also put silicone in the space around the hose and the hole to prevent air leakage (for the vacuum to work efficiently)..inside and out, it is completely sealed and wont be seen by anyone anymore..hehe

thanks for the concern...have a prosperous 2014 and beyond!
