I saw this 2HP GMC Air Compressor (Australian made) in a store with 30L capacity storage and it sells for Php5,500 with only 3months warranty. Ok bang bilhin to? Any comments from users of GMC Products?
Re: GMC Air Compressor
AFAIK, GMC stands for Global Machinery Company, Ltd. based in Austrlia. I think GMC is one of best known and trusted brands of tools and machinery for DIY enthusiasts in Australia so I think that air compressor you're eying may be a pretty good buy. 🙂
Re: GMC Air Compressor
One of our members lncc63 has lots of GMC tools in his workshop. He uses most of them, but also has some for sale. You may want to send him a message regarding the quality of GMC. He may also have the same unit for sale.

Re: GMC Air Compressor
I guess if the compressor will be used around the house for DIY projects then I think it is a wise buy. For commercial or industrial use I believe it would not last. "You get what you pay for" still applies to this situation. Good luck and I think at 5.5K you won't go wrong.
Re: GMC Air Compressor
Hope I'm not too late ... that's expensive, I would shop around. I bought a direct drive Vespa last year for P5,500. Sorry I don't remember its exact HP but it was the 3rd from the smallest in the store. It had a 1yr warranty.
As mentioned, GMC is meant for the Australian market so they are meant for 50Hz electricity. For compressors which use AC motors this means there is 17% reduction in power capacity. Also, it means that the motor will run slightly hotter.
I have quite a few GMC tools in my workshop but these are mostly universal motor tools. I do however have a wood lathe and a benchtop belt/disk sander both of which are GMC. When using these, I always pay attention to the motor temp.
Hope this helps.
Re: GMC Air Compressor
if u want a cheap air compressor, assemble one using defective car aircon compressor. just look for old air tank, attach new or used motor 1/2 hp high speed.
Re: GMC Air Compressor
If anyone needs an compressor tank, I have 2 I don't need. I'd be willing to sell each for P500. That's cheap since each comes with a check valve which by itself costs just about that much. These can be considered "new old stock". I think the compressors were busted or something.
Re: GMC Air Compressor
What is the size of the compressor tank? I have a compressor unit here in the house which I am afraid to use as the tank is rusted and may explode if I put too much pressure on it.
Re: GMC Air Compressor
It is as big as the tank on my Vespa ... as if that helps. I have a 3 hp (I think) direct drive Vespa. Sorry I could not be clearer. If I remember I'll post the dimensions tomorrow.

Re: GMC Air Compressor
IMHO the if you are going to use it commercially it would be best to look at what other commercial users are using. Another way is to ask an industrial supply store, not a hardware store, or a mall hardware store. On the other hand asking a store can be not such a good idea because they will of course want to push whatever they have.
In terms of price, it is probably hard to beat the Binondo stores however you should consider your travel time and expense. I usually buy my tools from a nearby industrial supply because whenever I need help or service they're only a few pesos and minutes away. The only thing I don't like is that they close at 5PM and on Sundays they're only half day.
Re: GMC Air Compressor
For the last week I have been checking out compressors from hardware stores and malls. I narrowed down my choice to a 1 HP vespa belt driven unit. (Note that according to the stores I went Vespa models are sold now under the Viva brand bec of the apprearance of fakes, I just don't know how true is this.)
Anyway I'll check industrial suppliers now and see if I can get a better quote. The 1 HP Vespa I found was priced at 12,950 pesos. I'm just worried now about the "fakes part" because a corresponding 1 HP Viva model sells for 18,900. These two compressors look the same to mee.
Can anybody please shed light on this. How do I know if the Vespa I am buying is not a fake?
