Share ko lang po. I bought these mostly from Online Sales from different vendors in the US. I am surprised that a lot of these cost just a little bit more than what is available locally. Add the fact that balikbayan boxes are tax free. Local prices are sometimes ridiculously high for same or comparable products.

Re: I received some tools

Thanks..

Didn't cost as much as if I had purchased locally. For example Sears have special 50% OFF and so does Amazon.com. I collected these over several months while waiting for the sale offerings. I seldom pay retail price for tools unless its absolutely needed.

For example the Craftsman 7 1/4 15A circular saw cost me after rebates and all around 56 dollars excluding shipping to MLA.

The GearWrench Ratcheting Screwdriver set which is second to the last picture was around $17 during the Sears 50% Gearwrench Sale.

My home shop is mostly automotive but have a few woodworking tools as well.

Re: I received some tools

Is this thread still alive? Sir jayL: Nice tools you got there. How do you order online? did you use forwarders or were the items shipped to you directly? i would like to order guitar building tools and supplies from the U.S. but i dont really have no idea how.
TIA

Re: I received some tools

Ordering on-line from US retailers:
1. Must have a valid international credit card or any accepted online payment credit account (Paypal, etc.);
2. International shipping from US to the Philippines is very expensive, try asking your relatives in the US to accept deliveries for your account;
3. As your relatives to contact forwarders of "balikbayan" boxes and ask them to ship for you, the last time I paid U$70/box
4. Then start shopping

Re: I received some tools

The steps outlined by manggyver is probably the best way to import tools from the US market.

If I may add that it is always good to wait for online sale events form sites like amazon.com , sears.com etc... before buying. Just monitor the prices first so you will know when the best deals come. You can also try joining US based forums of your interest. Usually there will be a Best Deals thread or something like this.

Watch out for local US taxes and shipping charges. These are deal killers. There will be sites that don't charge tax and have free shipping. My favorite online vendor is amazon.com.

Study the reconditioned tools online market too. I've had good luck so far on this aspect getting as much as half price discounts on power tools.

Some online sites will accept only credit cards billed in US soil.

The key is to have a relative in the US to receive the online purchases and later re ship these to the Philippines via tax free balikbayan boxes.

Hope this helps.

Re: I received some tools

Bros try Manila Forwarders. They have a service that allows you to open a balikbayan box at their warehouse and have stuff delivered directly to them. As your packages arrive they'll stuff them in your open balikbayan box. Once the box is full they will ship it to you. You can pay them via Paypal or locally. They also accept odd sized packages but once these arrive at their office they no don't bother to repack them, and just forward them to you immediately.

Or to have a forwarder (like manilaforwarders, as suggested by sir lncc63) ship it to you here in the Philippines, am I right? I still can't understand the process though i'm leaning everyday. Thanks to you guys!

Peace!

Wow this is even more convenient - not having to bother relatives in the US. Sir, do you have any contact details? Salamat po.

Re: I received some tools

Here is there webiste: http://www.manilaforwarder.com . Look for Roselle Arbulante or Yasmin Perfecto.

Bro, though I can't count how many boxes they shipped to me, it has been over a year since I've used their service so things may have changed but do contact them. Over the many boxes they sent to me, I have yet to have a reason to complain.

Re: I received some tools

It is always good to be able to have the tools purchases checked or better yet tested ( power tools) before it leaves US Soil. Remember once shipped warranty claims will be non existent if not cost prohibitive to do.

Would the forwarders be willing to do this ? Probably for a fee as well.

Sometimes it take months to fill a balikbayan box with tools specially if one waits for Special Online Deals. How long do you think the forwarders would be willing to keep the box in their warehouse till it is full and ready to ship?

Re: I received some tools

You are right of course. "Caveat Emptor" ... "Buyer beware" as the saying goes. Then again when I had my jointer ship to my Dad sent me an e-mail, "Your THING arrived". I wasn't really worried because it was of reputable brand, and I must say among the many things I've bought this way, only a few fell short of my expectations. I would be more concerned about after-sales support.

Sorry bro, its been a long time since my last box arrived so it would be better if you asked what they can offer you know. I really doubt though if they can test whatever you send them themselves.
