Re: impact wrenches electric vs air

one major advantage of air over electric is you can use it underwater or in the rain without getting electrocuted.

Re: impact wrenches electric vs air

I have a couple of air powered impact wrenches and I just love using these. I haven't tried any of the electric ones so I have no comparison. However for the 350 ft-lb max capacity I'd love to try the battery powered ones.

Not all air impact wrenches are made equal. You will find some Chinese made ones rated at 250 ft-lbs that can't even take off a wheel lug nut torqued at 90 ft-lbs.

It is best to stick with the name brands such as Craftsman ( those manufactured by Florida Pneumatic ), Ingersoll Rand, Chicago Pneumatic and Air Cat to name a few.

Arguably the best bang for the buck seems to be the Ingersoll Rand 231c.

Other members might have opinions on Electric Impact Wrenches. I'd love to hear some feedback on this too.

Re: impact wrenches electric vs air

has anyone ever tried using those emergency 12v impact wrench. the ones you hook up to the car battery or the cig lighter? they claim it could remove lugnuts off most cars. if this is true then im thinking it could remove most of the nuts and bolt in a car, except maybe the heavily torqued ones like head bolts and such.

im really tempted to buy one of these.

the advantage i see in an electric impact wrench is that it dosent require and expensive air compressor, and even if you already have and air compressor, it would make less noise since you dont need a compressor to charge every time.

Re: impact wrenches electric vs air

If I can see with my own eyes that this tool can remove a lug nut torqued at around 80 to 90 ft lbs ( and how much time it takes to loosen the nut ) then I might consider one too.

What brand is it?

tks
