I have been a METABO user since 1996. As long as I can remember they have always been German made but recently they too have been bitten by the China bug. With this in mind I decided I would start collecting as much German made tools of this brand as much as I can. I will post as much as I can of their tool features and distinct quality. I will try to post them in action if I can or if time permits. So heres a glimpse of my start up stash/loot...

Re: Metabo tools

The blade of this planer is Tungsten Carbide and it is reversible so you can expect more from it than your usual HSS blades. Life expectancy is longer too.

and the stickers says...

Re: Metabo tools

A much closer look gives you an idea of Metabo's safety standard for most of their power tools. A push lock switch that has to be pressed before you can pull the trigger of the tool.

It also has chip ejection ports on both sides of w/c you can attach a Vacuum dust port.

Heres the dust/chip extraction port attached on one side.

Re: Metabo tools

The base has a V groove channel that you may use to run edge chamfers.

Heres a view of the base showing the blade holder assembly...

Re: Metabo tools

Craftsmen sometimes have a habit of dragging the planer backwards to extend their forward stroke damaging the blade and the cutter head in the process. Metabo incorporated a Cutter head protection in their planer to cure this habit.

A closer view...

If I may quote Timber's words..."Another habit it cures is laying down a powered planer. The heel lifts it just enough that the blade doesn't touch the piece until it powers down. Good tools often have this safety features".

I'll try to post some pics of the planer in action in the coming days. Keep you posted soon.:)

Re: Metabo tools

A marvelous piece of a tool. It weighs just right and the vibration transfer to the operator isn't bad at all. This unit sands smoothly w/o any swirl marks on the work piece. I think the use of Metabo sheets helped a lot with the smooth and clean results of this tool. Mind you, the consumables aren't that expensive either nor the accessories. You can get a hole puncher for around 1k and use any brand of sand paper you want so you can still take advantage of the INTEC dust collection system even if you don't use a velcro type sheet.

Re: Metabo tools

Metabo being a stickler for safety, has the push lock switching trigger on this tool much like it's brothers.

The Handle has a rubber grip liner that helps reduce vibration and stabilizes the grip of the operator.
