Re: Metabo tools

The palm rest is also cladded with rubber to cushion vibration and increase grip control as you move the tool around the work piece. The vibratech system works pretty good. I used to handle the Makita 9045 sander and man was that tool strong. At over 500 Watts the Makita left my hands with so much shake. This tool is just about right at 350 Watts and it still managed to give me a smooth finish.

Re: Metabo tools

Any drills in the stash? Instead of biggest baddest most powerful, how about smallest lightest for a change...

Got this Metabo BE 10 a few months ago, smallest corded drill in the lineup locally. To 'replace' my Bosch cordless drills whose batteries all conked out recently. I have other drills, corded and cordless, but all heavier and tiring to use one-handed for long periods of time.

Weight is 1.1 kg according to spec. Smallest Bosch models of equal or greater input power were heavier (1.3-1.5 kg).

Nameplate says 'Germany' not 'Made in Germany'. So could be referring to Metabo address, not where product is manufactured. Is this the case for all the other Metabo tools shown?

Price was a 'promo' price. It seems that they have everyday/indefinite duration 'promo' prices for some of their tools. If so, a question some might run into is whether the offered discount is in addition/applicable to their 'promo' prices.

Re: Metabo tools

OTOH, the chop saw says 'Made in PRC', so who knows what 'Germany' really means.

Re: Metabo tools

The dealer said there is no German version of the Cut-off saw as far as she knows. For items labeled Nurtingen Germany, I don't know if that is an indicator that the unit is made in PRC. The angle grinders I got have this label for the Chinese version. My first drill was similar to yours but the plastic housing is much darker in terms of the green color. However the gear head mechanism is outstanding and the motor powerful.:)

Re: Metabo tools

If it says "Germany" instead of an explicit "Made in Germany", then it's probably the
result of entering a gray area in COO rules. A 35% local value-content is the U.S.
threshold: if less than 35% of the product's value was added in China, the product
won't have to show China as its COO. The product label can just ambiguously name
the brand-owner's country.

I see this a lot in 'transitional production'. Manufacturing is still in the process of
being transferred overseas, so a lot of old parts-stock remains to be shipped to the
new factory for assembly. It's hard to calculate for COO when the percentage of
old parts and new varies, and especially with a disdparity in labor-cost (it's values
added that counts), so during such an interim, you get ambiguous labeling: look
at the transitional IRWIN Records with just 'England' instead of 'Made in England',
the latter not only clearly identifying the COO in terms of where most of the value
was added, but implies where final assembly/QC actually took place.

Blunt skippy, guad's BE 10 was likely assembled in Shanghai with more than 65%
of the parts having been built in Nürtingen.

Thanks for the explanation. No doubt very complicated this country of origin issue.

Re: Metabo tools

Back to the Sheet sander...

The speed controller is where Metabo is also famous for. The electronics are on the money and their dust proof switching is wonderful.

Re: Metabo tools

This sander has an overhead turbo switch which makes the sander run as if it were on steroids. It pumps the sander from about 8400 rpm to 22,000 rpm in a flash.

Re: Metabo tools

This model has a front knob handle that helps in controlling the sander and stabilizing the operator's balance.

Re: Metabo tools

The heavy die cast sand paper clip w/c can hold ordinary sheets if ever you run out of cling fast sheets.

Re: Metabo tools

The dust port w/c accepts a 35mm Vacuum hose or the Intec dust collection system.

The Intec dust port w/c utilizes a pleated paper filter and a durable plastic housing
