Hello Frog 🙂 ... a nickname would be nice. Two years ago I saw table top lathes that I think would fit your bill being sold in Binondo. Binondo is in Manila. If I remember correctly they cost about P50,000.

You might also go for a 2nd hand lathe, mostly Japanense and American surplus though these are mostly floor standing models. I almost bought one: 1m bed, 300mm swing for P25,000, a sweet deal for sure I just did not the space for it.

Thanks for the advice - P25,000 sound like a pretty good price for a machine of those specs. All assuming reasonable condition, of course - don't want to buy someone else's problems. 😉 I will be over next towards the end of next year, so I will have to spend a day in Binondo looking around. I will ask for some addresses before I come. I also saw a place down in Sta Ana that sold machinery - I will have a look there, too.

I would prefer to buy locally, as it usually obviates any problems with power, parts etc - that's a drawback of bringing equipment in.

Hi Peter (did I miss your name the first time ... my apologies then). You can also look in the Caloocan area for surplus equipment shops. I used to work in a machine shop and this is where we used to buy some of our equipment. There are also similar shops in the QC area.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about these machines not having problems. They are surplus after all. The machine we bought we always tested, fixed and calibrated before we could use them.

a day in Binondo is just not enough. I live in this place and I can tell you there is so much to see. I have seen a lathe for your purpose and costs like Incc said (around 50K new). I have also seen a shop closing in Sta. Ana that sells their woodworking machines, Japanese made old wood working machines (OWWM) at decent prices. Owwm are most often made better than the newer ones, but they do need attention before they could perform to perfection. but that is a small price to pay for such good and reliable machines.

hi guys. im from far away. im planning to look for surplus metal lathe . yung malalaki. minimum of 6 feet. can u guys point out kung saan streets sa binondo and caloocan . and saan malapit.

para naman di sayang oras pag punta ko doon sa pag hahanap.

frog, since nandyan kana, dyan mo nalang bilhin. sayang naman. ang gaganda ng mga equipments dyan. but dont buy the china. taiwan, korean , o surplus japan. find a good shipper/broker ang problema mo nalang.
