I visited the 17th International Metalworking, Machine Tools, Factory Automation,
Hardware Products & Welding Machinery, Technology and Accessories Exhibition
on the 2nd floor of the SMX Convention Center this morning (it runs until Oct 12,
tomorrow, Saturday). Interesting stuff, and registration/admission was free. This
is a real trade show, meaning proper attire (and a handful of business cards) will
serve you well.

The welding-equipment community was well-represented (over 5 booths, IIRC)

Less than 5% of the floorspace was devoted to woodworking, chiefly embodied in
Golden Bell Marketing's display of table-saws (Altendorf, etc., but no pics, sorry),
band resaws and other equipment. By the bottom of their merchandise price-scale,
I saw a line of Taiwanese mortising bits (from P990 up). There were at least 3 stalls
devoted to handtools (Genius, Snap-on displayed by Co Ban Kiat, and at least one
other brand that I can't remember right now, lol), but next to nothing for handyman
type powertools.

CAD/CAM had more robust representation, three booths featuring 3D printers and
at least two more with desktop CAM robots (for automated lasing, soldering, you
name it). Lots of vendors of controllers and sensors for automated processes. Here
is CHAMPION FINE TOOLING CORP's Quickform 3D printer, with the cover removed
to show off how it works in-action.

CIM Technologies showcased a pricier 3D printer, along with usual-suspect Autodesk
software, but they seemed to focus on entertaining foreigners only, lol.

As its name suggests, the target of the exhibition is the commercial manufacturing
sector, which is a bit more industrial than a handyman's concerns, but I came away
with a better feel for what "state-of-the-art" means in the Philippines, with respect
to metalworking, woodworking and general manufacturing on a commercial scale.

Had a nice lunch at SM Mall of Asia across the street, to cap off the experience.

h.

Thanks bro horge for sharing this, though the affair/exhibition is kinda short, 3 days only, could have been nicer if it has at least a full week ran so some members can make plans to visit this exhibition.

Right in the middle of a typhoon, too.

Is Go Ban Kiat the Snap On distributor in the country?

Co Ban Kiat Hardware Inc. (BKHI) is a major dealer in Luzon.
In central Visayas, I believe there's Cebu Belmont Inc.

The Philippine distributor for Snap-on is
Snap-on Tools Singapore Pte. Ltd. - Philippines Branch
4F, 2053 Edison Street
Makati City, Philippines 1234
Tel. No.: (63/2) 843-7935
Fax. No.: (63/2) 843-7730

🙂

Oh, TOOLEC fronted its display of MILLER welders with a PlasmaCAM CNC cutting rig in action!
[COLOR="Blue"]That's the very same PlasmaCAM appearing on random Google ads here on PHM. All I have is
this very crappy photo, but I had to jostle my way through a small crowd to get a clear shot:

Very clean-cutting, ridiculously fast, hardly any noise... compare with the Google ad:

GRAYMAN Int'l Trading showcased one of those desktop robots I mentioned earlier,
a Janome JR2000N, in action: using a laser to grave a very fine design on a block of
metal. Once again, I apologize for the dodgy photography.

I really feel stupid not taking photos in the Woodworking equipment section...
but I got so caught up in inquiries with the vendors that I forgot to take a picture!
Golden Bell Marketing had all this cool equipment... you can just visit their website,
I guess:

http://www.goldenbellmarketing.com/products005.htm#jointermachines

and so on...
