Sorry to respond so late. I haven't had much time to check PHM out the past
few months. I got the Metabo SBe 600 R+L Impuls from Mach Tools for exactly
P8,000 out the door (yes, VAT included). It's the best drill I've ever used and
owned.

the sales-guy (John) started steering me towards on-sale merch, including the Metabo SBe 651 drill

Probably a long discontinued model, couldn't find any trace of it on manufacturer's official multi-country webpages.

Haha. I'm blessed with a wife whose father was a handyman and taught
her the importance of choosing QUALITY tools. She does metal crafting
herself (brass, silver, etc.). I'm the born cheapskate.

The only problems with this excellent metabo drill have been

1. based on websites abroad, it seems it should have come with a set of
metabo drill bits. Mach Tools instead bundles a set of its house-brand
"Power Craft" masonries. No biggie... their bits have proven to be of
decent quality naman.

2. keyless chuck is keyless. I prefer old-skool keyed, but I've adjusted to
the new regime.

Bro, I've been thinking/mulling on upgrading a new handrill as a replacement for my old 10 mm B&D, chuck has become a bit wobbly and hard to lock with a chuck key. Your purchase looks so enticing but a bit pricey for me, anyway I am also searching/looking for a Dewalt or a Makita and will compare prices, I know these two are considered as top notch brands as well. 😉 🙂

Personal experience lang ha, but...
I've come to view B&D (and Skil, while we're at it) as hobbyist-use only.
If you're talking medium-to-heavy duty, they fall a bit short. I'd actually
rank DeWalt over Makita for durability: the work crews I deal with have
burned through three Makita hammer drills in the past 8 years.* I'm not
talking about worn carbons, but real damage.

E, kahit anong turo ang gawin ko, bastos talaga gumamit ang iba.
Instead of changing to a wider bit, ilalaro pa sa butas para lang mapalaki.
Ayun, grabe na ang play ng spindles; yung isa, broken teeth sa gear, so
junk na lang. Kaya yung DeWalt ko (DW 201 B1) ang laging hinihiram
the past few years, and putthrough the same horrible abuse, for weeks
at a time: While it is clearly showing its age, it hasn't completely failed.

I tell you, 12" long na rotary hammer bit (you know, SDS type with the
dimples in the shank-base), pinipilit isaksak sa DeWalt, kahit hindi talaga
ukol sa three-jaw chuck: di nga ma-centro and the bit visibly wobbles,
acting more like an eggbeater than a drill ([COLOR="Red"]insert all of my rage here)
yet they've abused it to bore literally thousands of holes in reinforced
concrete and masonry over the years.

It's a wonder my DeWalt still works.
Granted, manufacturing standards for DeWalt may have changed since
I bought mine, but based on my drill and how it's handled all the horror
heaped upon it, I have to place DeWalt over Makita, although Makita
enjoys better aftersales support. JM2, YMMV, etc.

Next up for replacement my varspeed Bosch angle grinder, even though
I only bought it last Christmas, and for the same ugly reason: I suffer
precious little access to it because it's always out on loan, no thanks to
a relative-who-shall-remain-unnamed. 😡

Good modern tools are crazily expensive and I myself had to take a loan from http://payday-loans-cash-advance.net/MD/ to get what I need. But I think that it's ok to pay for good quality.

As the saying goes..... " You get what you pay for " . So why pay for disposable needed power tools ?

Your just so lucky to have such a wife. Mine doesn't even want's to hear about new instruments. Everytime I buy an expensive one, we argue. So I cannot do it so often, even if I need them. This women must have Jewish blood. I really want to build a nice workshop but she's the only thing that's stopping me. I'm thinking about taking a loan without even telling her and build it. What to do with such a wife?:confused:

And what you're gonna do when she's gonna see you building the workshop? The conflict is gonna get bigger when she's gonna find out that you invested big money in the workshop. If you don't have children - get a divorce. She's gonna control you all the time.
